Im so glad I forgot England were playing last night
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wish i did, watched the whole thing
I just wish they would squeeze all this pointless international crap all in at the end of the summer. Start the club season a month later if that is what necessary.
======
This would make the most sense by far, also because international managers and teams would get proper time together and the chemistry of playing games together in succession, instead of a couple of weeks here and there. It can be argued that international football suffers from this system too because how finely can you tune a team in just 2/3 days?
UEFA and FIFA only care about money and revenue so whether this is feasible depends on whether it would make them more money or less money. The enjoyment of the fans is way low on the list of priorities.
WTF is going on with Mac Alister? Argentina coach has said that he is injured but we still allowed him to travel. He did not play last night and a serious doubt for the next game. When are we gonna get a backbone and stop players travelling?

Sorry going to have to explain it then…..
Basically you have to have a length of toilet roll hanging out of your ass, someone lights the bottom of it and you have to race to the other end of the room before you’re allowed to pull it out.
Sounds a ridiculous thing to do now I’m typing it out But if you just get on with it and do it laughing, it’s a big step to being accepted by the ‘old sweats’.
He probably requested to travel

Mate of mine at uni was in the rugby team and I went on a few nights out with them - they used to play this. Only there was usually a drink to neck either before the run or at the end. Or both. They were an odd bunch.
Thankfully I never actually took part in the toilet roll run, not being part of the team meant I got away with it.

If it's such a privilege the why do players regularly feign injury to avoid joining up with the national team?
Perhaps it's possible the players don't like the idea of mid-season international breaks either.

I find myself not yearning all that much for the start of the season when it comes around, because I have plenty to keep me busy over the summer months, but when it comes back you just want it back properly.
These early season interruptions every 3 weeks do my fecking head in, and totally screws clubs over injury wise. Also the impact on players coming back from long trips away.

Yeah, agree with all that. One thing I would say is that if they insist on playing this tournament, then it needs to be scaled down somehow. It’s just too many games.

Actually what would happen in this scenario is the players won't have played with each other for around 8 months and it would be like starting over every time the 'national team season' began.
The current system is the only way it works and is probably the best it has been with most of the meaningless friendlies now replaced with the Nations League, giving more incentives and more chances to the smaller nations to qualify for the big tournaments.
Yes - it's frustrating when your club aren't playing because they have to break for international weeks but that's just impatience really and the practicality of when the games are played is more important than some impatient fans.

I think you are both right!
For me I think that you don't need to cancel international breaks within a season, but equally there doesn't need to be as many as there is.
Surely if you cut them by a third or by half and moved them the remainder to early summer, then I think it would benefit everyone.
