A mistake from Caoimhin Kelleher, who had been superb on the night, gifted Petros Mantalos Greece's late second goal in Athens.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was a shocking mistake after an excellent performance

Luckily it was late on and didnt really matter for the result, also get it out the way with Ireland rather than us hopefully.

I see Roy Keane's been running his mouth again about TAA's poor defending.
He can't put his hatred aside for a minute can he.
Facking moron.
They don't really have much to hang onto these days

This debate will always run on as people don't understand what 'out of position' means. If he's asked to come inside then he's not out of position if the opposition make a quick counter down their left and he's not there. Of course if he's had a chance to get back and simply chose not to, that's a different story.
He keeps banging on about better sides will punish him. Does he realise hes beaten the best teams around multiple times? Like fml lol
Walkers cost England more goals than anyone not a peep too. Think he was at fault for most if not all conceded last tourn

I don't think it's hatred tbh. If you go on our match thread you'll find many similar comments and sentiments. And several far worse.
I do think it's cliched nonsense though. I guess the difference between our angry fans and Keane is that he's paid to spout the same old hackneyed lines.
Its unfair in that we see players at fault all the time esp tripper last season facking awful, plays lb in the tourn tho not a peep about how many goals he cost newcastle. Rj walker etc all of em get caught ball watching out of position etc they dont bang on about it like they do trent

Confirmation bias. The very definition of it.
Some have decided TAA can't defend so will look for every opportunity to support that view.
I've always thought TAA was a superb player just not a top notch defender in the purest sense, no criticism as I enjoy watching him overall but always felt he'd be better at RWB or RM
Keane is just click bait. He can never back it up with facts.

You see it in almost everything these days
I don’t think you’ll find many top notch defenders at full back these days. Can anyone name any? Reece-James maybe but he’s got less working legs than Heather Mills.
But as I’ve always said, put Trent (or any elite attacking full back) in a flat back four with a hard working runner in front of him, and asked him not to cross the half way line, he’d look a very solid defender.
To say he ‘can’t defend’ is nonsense spited by know-nothings who just watch highlights.
And Roy Keane I guess, but I like Roy.
He was playing LB anyway! That’s something Trent certainly isn’t.

Fair comment maybe what I meant to say he could be even better in a less defensive role? he has a sublime touch and passing range, throw in set piece delivery and free kicks and he'd look even better, seems a good pro as well
He’d have a lot less time though, and I don’t think that suits him. For all his technical brilliance, and it is brilliance, his first touch actually isn’t THAT good. Play him further forward and he’ll get pressed reasonably easily I feel.

I think there are a few full backs at big clubs who are top quality defenders, Dani Carvajal is the name that springs to mind.
I do take the general point though, the trend is towards full backs who provide width and attacking threat.

Head says no, heart says no.
Called it about two years ago too. It sucks.
Hopefully they do everything they can and give him parity with Salah. Just not sure they will, or even if that would be enough.
