----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not great is it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s really not and doesn’t bode well. I’m wondering has he made up his mind to try pastures new.
Happy new year by the way and all that palaver
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Personally I think Salah and his management team have just decided to put pressure on the club through fans and the media; they’re taking every available opportunity to suggest (or in this case state) it’s the last season.
If Salah had decided the time was right to move on, then he’d say so imo.
Tbh, I think this interview is no different to the one after the last game. Or the game before that. Or the one before that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So in January our best player, top 3 greatest ever possible, leading Ballan Dor contender is still having to put pressure on the club?
Do you not see how ridiculous that is?

We won’t pay the money to replace him, so just spend the money to keep him and if it means we have to sell him to Saudi or pay him into retirement then fine.

As others have said, it depends entirely on what is being asked for. What if he’s looking for a 4 or 5 yr contract? Highest wage the club has ever paid? Guaranteed game time for the duration of the contract? Break clauses? Etc etc
We have no idea. Nobody on this board knows.
So yeah, if Salah is asking for a 2 yr contract at about the same wage - it is ridiculous. But we don’t know that.
Personally I choose not to lose my sh*t over it and just see what happens.

I don't know but obviously there's a limit. If he's asking for £500k for four years, for example, you could see why there would be hesitancy. Just need to see how it plays out.
Having said that, I remember something from a while back about him supposedly being happy with a one year extension. So who knows.

FSG have really crapped the bed and I don't know how they're going to fix this one. There's no excuse becothey saw it happening and you can't argue they don't know how football works anymore. Allowing these contracts to be a problem is unexplainable IMO
posted 1 day, 20 hours ago
Thing you also have to factor in with the contracts is there wasn't an optimum time from the players POV until recently.
Summer 2023 we finished 5th which was our lowest ever finish under Klopp and we had to buy a brand new midfield. I doubt a player would want to commit in that situation when we could have ended up on a big decline if the players didn't work out.
Then 3 months later Klopp tells the club he's leaving and 2 months after that he tells the players. So again what player is going to commit with so much uncertainty? Then you won't want to sign a deal until you get a feel for whether Slot is any good.

Don't think we have learnt our lesson. Look at Konate who is on 18 months before his contract expires. He will probably wait now and see what a Bosman will give him. Since the last contract splurge a few years back who else has signed a new contract?
It's been mainly youth players like Jones and Quansah.

It has but I just mean I think the club was in a bit of a crap position to open contract talks for a good 12-15 months because of the above.
Didn't help we didn't have a permanent DoF until Hughes joined this summer either.

Billy Hogan was still running the ship. It was him who sanctioned and negotiated the 100m plus Caicedo deal. Don't think we can use the excuse that Edwards and replacement left.
Klopp was fully in charge of the footballing end too. It was pretty stable.

Ornstein is about as respected and plugged in as journalists get; he’s saying 2yrs for VVD and Salah signed up in January. I wouldn’t say that’s bleak. Still feels very uncertain though.
Trent’s another matter, I think we all fear the worst there.

What do we make of this?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As others have said, it depends entirely on what is being asked for.

Just give Salah a four year contract if that’s what he’s after ffs.
We won’t pay the money to replace him, so just spend the money to keep him and if it means we have to sell him to Saudi or pay him into retirement then fine.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Also depends on how much he's asking for and for how long.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How much is too much?

I don't know but obviously there's a limit. If he's asking for £500k for four years, for example, you could see why there would be hesitancy. Just need to see how it plays out.
Having said that, I remember something from a while back about him supposedly being happy with a one year extension. So who knows.

FSG have really crapped the bed and I don't know how they're going to fix this one. There's no excuse becothey saw it happening and you can't argue they don't know how football works anymore. Allowing these contracts to be a problem is unexplainable IMO

I’m pretty sure 3 signed contracts would probably fix it.

Will there be 3 signed contracts? I'm still hopeful but it's looking really bleak at this point in time.

Well all that has been sorted and confirmed now.

I think half a season is a sensible amount of time to judge where we're heading, and it looks good. I reckon we'll see movement soon.

Classic catastrophising.
Konate is now “probably” going to run down his contract
Can you imagine the misery on this board if we weren’t 6 points clear with a game in hand!
