I still don't understand why we seemed to shift away from our transfer model that was proven to work.
I know we're a much better team now than 6/7 years ago but all our best signings bar probably VVD and Alisson were players around 23/24 from smaller clubs with great underlying stats and with big potential, and we were signing 3/4 a season.
We then seemingly decided that only 1/2 players every year can actually improve the squad and they must be top quality in the here and now, as opposed to someone who might explode once they arrive.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Edwards left and Klopp had far more involvement and say in transfers. Then Klopp announced he was leaving and it left a void. Both ends of that void are what has led us to where we are at the moment. Too much change behind the scenes very rarely makes for smooth running of anything.

If it carries on like this the fan AGM this year will be box office.

I'm just glad we didn't end up signing Bellingham in the end.
Could you imagine if instead of Mac, Szobo and Grav we bought just one midfielder and kept a finished Fabinho and Hendo

Find it quite interesting that City can make multiple signings in Jan when their Sporting Director is in his way out and Arsenal can make summer signings in Jan with no sporting director at all, because he’s left.

Athletic reporting this morning that people close to the City trial expect them just to receive a hefty fine for the charges.
Pretty much what we all expected and makes sense with the Haaland contract news this morning. They wouldn't hand out a contract that big unless they were confident.

I think the strategy had to change a bit. It was implemented to create a team, using the stats and ages of players, to compete against clubs spending billions. At some point this wasn't enough to take that next step(and for the players to be better than what we had) to challenging for and winning trophies so we made big money signings to complete the team. Most of the big money signings are still at the club so when they go I expect big money signings will replace them. They team have been trying to spend big money on a number 6 for the past few seasons as that was identified and rightly so as the weakest area where we didn't have a replacement in the squad, which unfortunately failed due to various reason, came in too late for Caicedo and Lavia, almost complete deal only for Zubimendi to pull out at the last minute. Spent big on replacing Firmino and Mane but unfortunately replacing Firmino hasn't worked out so far.
I think when you're at the top and competing for Trophies with a great squad, it's difficult to find data based mid-range transfer fees type players. Therefore going from a midtable team to a top team means you have to change your transfer strategy.
Obviously with only signing one player in the summer fans are concerned about what this strategy actually is and some even questioning whether there is one or whether those employed to implement it and incompetent but they've only been in the job six months so I prefer to have patience, considering the squad is an excellent one already and wait to see what happens.

Absolutely. Watch most Georgian games(wouldn't recommend it for the neutral mind) and especially in games when Georgia are up against it, he's pulls off outstanding saves. Not as mobile as Alisson with the ball at his feet but he's not bad either. He's also a monster claiming the ball high in the area.
