I think Levy sacked AVB thinking he could get de Boer or Van Gaal in. Sounded them out, was told they wouldn't be available until the summer, and decided to stick with Tim (who had made a decent start). Really, in all the games against decent opposition (other than Arsenal at home and Benfica away, for the last 15 minutes) we've struggled massively and have gone backwards.
I was supportive of Tim for a long while, but he became ever harder to defend with some of his comments and actions and formations. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not that sad to see him go. He was only ever going to be an interim, Levy felt obliged to give him an 18 month contract to shut him up.
We need a proper manager, give him time, build a squad, and not ruin the steady progress we've had in recent seasons.

Dream scenario - Ancellotti (but I seriously doubt it)
Realistic scenario - De Boer
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What about Benitez?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Benitez gets a lot of stick but he's generally been successful wherever he's gone.
If you compare Sherwood to Monk at Swansea. Both appointed at a similar time on similar circumstances. Basically steady the ship and we'll judge you by the end of the season.
Both have made mistakes on the pitch. One of them has quietly got on with the job and showed signs of learning. The other has courted attention and spoken his mind (rightly and wrongly). It doesn't surprise me that Monk got the Swansea job permanently and Sherwood hasn't got our one. Whether it works out for both clubs remains to be seen.
just a joke/shambles of a club...its pathetic and embarassing the way we carry on....
like i say....levy must appoint...stick with the guy...and butt out.
But we had one of the best defences in the league under AVB. We lost heavily to City, Liverpool and West Ham, but other than that, we were getting plenty of clean sheets.
I just think that concentration in the early part of games has been awful all season. It's been a season to forget - and the players, Levy, Baldini, AVB and Sherwood all have to take some responsibility for that. I honestly don't think he's done enough to warrant a permanent position.

Do you honestly believe, even if Sherwood had been more conservative in his approach to the media, we'd have let him stay on? He was only ever going to be a stopgap with the level of experience he showed, and our performances.
other than that....!?
ya beat/compete with the teams around you.....your facked.
not saying he deserves the job...just saying its harsh blaming him for the sheeet defense...if anything...i think he realized how sheeet at the back we are...and just figured to try and outscore the oppo.....

I still want De Boer but only reason I'm slightly warming to pochettino is because of his Argentine roots which means he will favour Erik Lamela and we can finally have a manager that will give this superb talent a chance instead of sticking with the likes of Lennon. Will support whoever comes in.
Plenty of managers looking to top up their pension fund.one year in then a big payoff.
Lovely Jubbly.

Unlikely, but he'd have stood a far better chance if he'd kept his mouth shut. If he'd gone about his job quietly and achieved the same results as he has done i'm sure the fans would have sympathy for him leaving. Whereas to be honest a relief that he has gone now.
Sizzle, I imagine an 18 month contract with the possibility of sacking at the end of season without paying off the rest of contract. Not sure what else it could be.

The Break Clause would be fairly clear & water tight.
It is more than likely that Levy put in an option that says if we do not get CL, then the club have the right to appoint another manager. Sherwood will have received a payoff of around £1m I would suggest.
When he was appointed I did suggest that an 18 month contract seemed to suggest that even if he did not realise, Sherwood was only going to be in charge until the end of the season!
I really wonder why the vast majority of Spurs fans on here think that 6th and a Europa spot is such a bad season. Getting into the top 4 next time is going to be even tougher. You've got the 2 oil lottery winners, Arsenal, a rejuvenated Liverpool and Utd that cannot possibly be this bad again.
I remember the nineties when we saved ourselves from relegation twice in the penultimate league game. Selling Bale was a huge error, he had plenty of time left on his contract and he was massively raising the worldwide profile of the club.
6th will probably be as good as it gets next season with or without an experienced Prem manager. I except that Sherwood had his faults but I liked his frank interviews and blooding of youngsters. You may not find many on here prepared to admit it but theres a great many Spurs fans who felt he should of been given the full 18 months!
Break clause would be as simple as its an 18 month contract with provision to terminate at 6 months.

Do you really need to ask that? We've invested £100m on new players, and finished one position and 3 points lower than last season. That's before you get into the results and performances.

We sold the 3rd best player in the world. So going backwards was always on the cards.
I will miss you Tim!
Best manager we have had since Jol
Pawl
And Arsenal sold RVP, one of the best strikers at the time, and went forwards. It depends on how well you spend the money/how well you get the best out of the new players, and we did a shoddy job overall.
