Don't think that will be the standard but someone obviously said to him 'Brazil cannot lose today'.
Some terrible decisions last night - absolute farce of a decision for th penalty.
Pletikosa could have saved all three of Brazil's goals though

It was shocking from that Japanese ref yesterday. Fred just slipped and completely conned him last night but he seemed to be favouring Brazil all night. Croatia were very unlucky to even lose the game let alone concede 3.
The jump by Olic seemed to be perfectly fine and the linesman flagged for a foul for pretty much nothing and the goal should have stood. Also just before the Oscar goal there was a blatant foul by one of the Brazil players which the referee also didn't give. Having said that all three goals were stoppable from a goalkeeping perspective and Pletikosa will be disappointed. From a scuffed shot, a penalty straight at him and getting beat from a toe poke at his near post is just not good enough. That doesn't take away from the poor refereeing performance however and it's a shame as this is quite a regular occurence where after games we talk more of referees than the game itself.
Organisations like the FA or FIFA don't really do much about it and it just carries on like this week after week game after game where referees seem to put in performances like that.

no, he dived. cheating.

Normally I put bad decisions down to human error, ref's get a very hard time doing an almost impossible job.
But last night, something was up.
Half of Brazil protesting and threatening to ruin the world cup, all day people were saying 'they just need a win to get the nation onside, then all the trouble will stop'.
That ref was leaned on by someone to make sure they got a result and that would calm everyone down, I am sure of it.
You cant expect referees to make the same decisions for every incident in every single game around the world. They're humans, not robots, so their decisions about certain incidents will vary according to what type of referee they are, certain refs are card happy, certain refs allow you to get away with little fouls, certain refs allow the game to flow, that type of thing. Watch in the next few games, a clear cut penalty wont be given but it wont be because he's a crap referee and he should be cleaning toilets not refereeing world cup games. It just means he's probably got strict requirements for giving a penalty to a team.. It would be nice for every single penalty incident to be judged exactly the same way but in reality a referee takes into account so many other factors like who the home team is, the crowd reaction, whether or not that player has a history of conning the ref.. This is all before you even get down to judging the actual incident..

Refs are always ridiculously biased towards home country's. Remember South Korea?

Mr Chelsea,
You're right, certainly. But it wasn't just the pen last night, it was the disallowed goal, the neymar forearm decision, Olic called for handball (off his face), he just seemed determined to give Brasil an advantage where he could. Maybe he just had a shocking game, maybe the occasion got to him.
I found the glare on his face immediately after the decision a little strange, he was just downright angry or pretended to be. The standard of football was what can be expected of the opening match which are normally dour draws but at least this one had goals. Lucky Brazil. I'm certain that other teams are overawed by Brazil.
Irrelevant fact: Japanese Brazilians are the largest ethnic Japanese community outside Japan.

I put that down to Brazil getting home team advantage. Benefit of the doubt. Not saying that's right but it just happens. I guess it's difficult to not be affected by the occassion. He would never have had the balls to send off Neymar.. Maybe a stronger ref would have sent Neymar off but I dont know. Would take some serious balls for a ref to do that in the opening game.
It happens in the Premier League.. When you go to play one the big clubs at their home ground, you see a lot of decisions go for the home team. Old Trafford for example.

Shut up Sandy you crusty old cvnt

You see Brazil on the television in their bright yellow shirts and striking blue shorts and the dull contrast of the other team and straightaway Brazil have the advantage, it's almost as if in appearance there is only one team on the pitch. One takes into account Brazil's history and they are already three quarters of the way to a win against most teams they are playing. I hope somebody thrashes them after the histrionics of last night.

Whose Sandy?
I backed Brazil in doubles and trebles, so not moaning at the result, just at the very poor refeering.
Mr Chelsea,
Completely agree, and I know it happens, it just seemed a bit more than just a home advantage last night, all seemed a bit suspicious! Imagine if those exact same decisions had gone against England, we'd be furious!
I'm with Chickasaw, after last night I want Brasil to get a spanking by someone.
