The emergence of the sugar daddy and Chelsea and city is always so overlooked but I don't understand why. It's like people think Wenger has failed by not being better than these teams. United could compete with them because of the dominance Fergie built over a sustained period and as a result the income they generated and reputation they held which enabled them to spend big on top players. Arsenal over achieved by even finishing within a few points of these three teams. Wenger should have done better in the cups but it's not the monumental failure you lot make it out to be. The main concern for is is not winning fa cups but to be challenging for the league. People say Wenger failed because of the media driven "years without a trophy" agenda
-----------------------------------------------
Overlooked? If anything we're obsessed with making that excuse all the time. Clubs like Atletico Madrid and Dortmund and even Liverpool last season have proven that is just a convenient excuse. Arsenal have had the resources for years now to compete if our manager was a little more ambitious and more tactically astute rather than lying down for the big boys.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What do all those teams you mention regularly win? How many of those clubs have remained within ten or fifteen points of top for seventeen years? Celebrating Liverpool who won nothing and finished in top four for first time in five years come on
The disrespect shown at Wenger is outrageous IMO. Those people who wanted Wenger out should go support Chelsea now.
Congratulations Wenger we salute you as it appears as though you're doing your job properly in the transfer market for the first time in god knows how long, well done.
we've finished top 4 for 17 years straight.. when you see the poor seasons our rivals have sometimes even Chelsea with a billion £ squad that sort of consistency is amazing, very underrated. especially during a difficult period often rebuilding teams.

Do you not understand that we couldn't and wouldn't be getting the type of players we are getting now without Wengers previous work? People also forget that he is developing talent,to this day, like Ramsey too!

From the top of my head, Wenger oversaw the club's move to the Emirates, whilst keeping us competitive.
---------------------------------------------------
What does that mean? That we wouldn't have moved stadium if not for Wenger? Spurs are about building a new stadium and that's without the benefit of CL money - would that be attributed to Pochettino if he's still their manager in the next 2 or 3 years? I also wouldn't know how you define competitive. Our biggest competition in the last 8 years is fighting with Spurs for a top 4 spot and we've remarkably done it 3 times by just one point. How much of a threat have we been to the big boys in the league and CL?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The operative word here is "threat", and we have been that to the so-called big boys . You can't top the league as much time as we did last season and not be considered a threat. Recall the Eduardo leg break and how that singular event derailed our season. We were also a threat back then and so many other seasons.
Nobody is saying Arsene is infallible ; far from it ! He has made bad judgements especially when dithering with our transfers but his achievements for our great club cannot be questioned. Arsene is far from par. Greatly, over-par more like.
The same Chelsea side that won the Champions League the year slipped out of the top four?
Look the view of a sane fan is this: we have done very well to remain at least fourth every single year whilst moving to a state of art stadium and having to sell top players every year. We definitely should have done better in the cups and perhaps pushed harder for titles when we were in strong position aka 2008 eduardo etc. But to say we have failed is ridiculous, especially because of the unforseen emergence of sugar daddies (remember only city Chelsea and United have finished above us apart from two exceptions) . If i gave us a a rating for last ten years I would give a 7.
Why can people like bats not be able to see this as a rational view
Are you silly? How on earth do you think we afford to bid for Sanchez ozil etc while paying all the debts we have
------------------------------------------
Yeah, that's why Wenger and Gazidis SEVERAL TIMES over the years claimed we had money to spend. Only to then not spend the money. And instead pay outrageous wages to mediocre players in the squad while underpaying the star players.
Do you not understand that we couldn't and wouldn't be getting the type of players we are getting now without Wengers previous work? People also forget that he is developing talent,to this day, like Ramsey too!
-----------------------------------------------------
Not really. We could have gotten the players even then. Wenger was just afraid to spend big money. Money has been available for a long time. His youth development is no different from other big clubs.
As someone mentioned when even Chelsea are finishing 7th after spending a billion or city finishing fifth even after spending hundreds of millions shows you just how difficult it is to finish top four, let alone for nearly twenty years!
accringtown have money to spend, how much is a different matter we didn't have the money to compete with the top teams for signings, don't know how anyone could dispute that.
People also forget that he is developing talent,to this day, like Ramsey too!
-----
As good as Ramsey is now which is borderline world class, and to be fair I don't think I've ever been more wrong about a player in my life but he was played at the detriment to the team for nearly 2 years. While in hindsight you could argue it was the right decision I'm still unsure.

So is it because Wenger didn't spend big money, earlier, the reason he's nothing special,to you?

Have any of you read Swiss rambles reports on Arsenal which clearly show and he even explains that there has been money to spend for quite a while now, or is that sort of substantiated claim backed up with evidence that you ignore in order for you to keep believing?

I don't think Wenger has failed. I think he's achieved about par for the course over the last 9 years which I've stated here severally. It's those who place him on this great pedestal as some kind of genius that I don't get. If we had a "footballing" board like Bayern do and not just some old farts counting the rise in their share value, Wenger would have been sacked long ago.
Biggest myth going Wenger was afraid to spend money. He just bought two big money signings in space of a year. Arsenal financial records indicated 2014 would be the year Arsenal would compete in the transfer market with the big boys.
I am sure RVP would've stayed if Arsenal had the money to spend but he wasn't stating around for an extra couple of years do that. Puma deals and the new emirates deals have bought in money.

They've clearly bought into Wenger's evasive tactics. He has been fairly duplicitous over the years. First, he'd often claim there;s money to spend, and then when the pressure is building, he starts hinting at constraints. But it's been pretty clear we've had money to spend for a long time and failed to spend it while driving our wage bill to ludicrous levels on mediocre players.
the wenger is scared to spend thing was one of the more deluded accusations against him over the past years.

---------------------------------------------
On the contrary, the biggest myth is that we were a club on a shoestring budget with little money to spend. We've always been among the top 4 budgets in England and could have significantly upped our spending long ago.
So we're going to ignore the dodgy tactics then?
we couldn't have upped our spending much, the 70-100m of increased revenue now is the reason we can spend more.
