Yes it matters that he smokes. It affects the health of his lungs
i don't think pro athlete's shld....and wether it's connected or not...the lad does struggle with injuries so maybe even more so shld live as clean as possible....
they are VERY well payed and are expected to make certain sacrifices for those vast sum's....
and arsenal as a club appear to deem smoking as one of them maybe.....!?
I used to smoke, now I got one of those e-cigs, the difference is crazy. Im not a bit fit but I cycle 20kms most days. No wheezing, feel much better for it.
A pro sportsman smoking is ridiculous.
Does it really matter if he smokes or not?? Personally I couldn't care less, he's not the only pro sportsman to smoke yet he seems to get hammered for it
-----
As long as he produces on the pitch then no, it shouldn't matter.
However in this day and age, football players are expected to be sportsmen as well as role models.
I'd have no problem as long as the performance levels were to a high standard.
IMO while he is free to do what he wants whilst on holiday, it is not particularly professional.
Suspect club will have another word with him and he may face club santions should he be found to be unduly out of shape on his return to training.
surely it should be his decision though?
if Arsenal want to discipline him fine but i really don't see how this stroy should hold any ineterst for anyone other than the Gooners

Rooney smokes as well and it really winds me up. You are living just about every football fans dream but do not have the mental strength to put aside cigarettes.
Makes no sense

I'm not bothered if he smokes, he's only effecting his own health and fitness before the season starts

The thing is that he's been photographed during his down-time - he's in a swimming pool, it's the summer holidays, he's surrounded by friends... he's relaxed.
There's nothing to suggest that this is a reflection of his habits; it doesn't appear to be something he does when he's sitting at home on the sofa, or driving along in his car. It's easy to take this photo of him when he's being a bit self-indulgent and try to paint him in a bad light, but it's completely out of context.
It doesn't appear to have any impact on his fitness. In fact, you'll notice that Wilshere will keep running long after others have slowed down; and it would be a stretch to suggest that his Achilles problem was caused by smoking.
He's hardly a role model for kids anyway
If anything it's a win win for everyone else
It doesn't appear to have any impact on his fitness.
Because he's injured for half the season anyway

Should have put it in his contract then.
Plenty of great players have smoked, Zizou, Maradona, Best, Berba.
I heard 'Arry on talksport this morning and he said all the Eastern European players used to smoke soon as they had the chance.
It's not like Jack has trouble getting up and down the pitch, his injuries are usually joints or muscular so there is no correlation there.
If he wants a puff on a cig whilst not working who gives a toss?

didnt steed malbranque smoke like 20 a day?

And there's also Bernd Schnieder, who famously never suffered injuries until his thirties - he was a well-known smoker (as was Oliver Neuville).

So it only matters when Wilshere smokes. Rooney and Van Persie smoke regularly but nobody says anything about it. Leave the boy alone.
