What I don't understand is that you've already bought Shaw so obviously Rojo will play on the right. But Rafael was one of your best players during the title winning season and was arguably the best right back in the league Zabaleta. Rafael wasn't the main reason as to why you finished where you did and certainly not the loose end of your squad
What I don't understand is that you've already bought Shaw so obviously Rojo will play on the right.

No, what you don't understand is that Rojo is a CB.
"so obviously Rojo will play on the right"
what?
I was assuming he'd be LCB/LWB in a 3-5-2, CB/LB if we switch to 4 at the back
Just wrote something similar on the 'I don't want Rojo' thread
We need a left sided defender having let two leave in the Summer and the one we do have now, is injured.
Do people really want to see Blackett or Reece James playing in the first team at the moment instead of an Argentine international?

They do Macca and the mind boggles. The best part is that most of them have not watched him play but have decided he is crap.
Why not give him a chance. Someone highlighted that Benatia who people drool over played at a lower level as well and did nothing till he joined Roma last year. Now he is the messiah.
The lack of patience and lack of faith in the manager who has won it all is troubling
My main point though is that Jones and Smalling are the natural heirs to Rio/Vidic's throne. Rojo's signing doesn't change that.
Now, i'm not saying they will ever reach those dizzying heights.... But surely they should be given a season to try?
if we need a LB cover for shaw we don't ne need to spend 20 mil.
the most sensible argument is we are signing him for covering both lcb and lb. Why not sign a worldclass cb instead of a jack of all trade player we have had enough of this mediocre type signing in the name of versatility

Does that mean Jones and Smalling are right backs because he played there a lot of season?
I say this because Rojo has only played at cb for a season, and it's well documented he was terrible there until the turn of the year.
You see, things aren't as simple as made out. Rojo is, and always has been a left back, it just so happens he played cb last season. Square pegs round holes, ring any bells?

I seriously still would not say no to another top class CB a CM and a Winger

These are the comments that annoy me. Why give them a season, they have played out of position for years and are nothing but donkeys.
We need to get rid and sell Rojo as well as he is crap. All we need to do is get Hummels + Benatia and we will be fine.
I do not care how much they cost, 200m each is fine by me

That would be too simple. Look how Chelsea do it, they lose Lampard and need a striker/ full back, in come Costa, Luis and Fabregas.
If only we had such a simple summer once and a while.
Rojo is a left footed centre back who can also play as a LB.
How hard is it for people to understand this?

Well documented by muppets on here?
I have chatted pretty extensively to my Portuguese friends since we have been linked with Rojo and, though none would claim he is world class, they said he has been playing well as a CB, none mentioned anything of the sort about only playing well, this year.
Thanks mudd
we have tolerated mediocrity for too long, and the worst part is we pay over the top for mediocrity when with a little more effort or cash we could get top class talent

Funny that because I have read a lot of pundits and footballers say he is much better as a wing back.
In fact, I expect Shaw to be lcd and Rojo to be lwb.

16m in today's market is a superb signing
to put things into perspective, he is not as good as demichelis as center back. Same demechelis that many will say is city's weak link.
I find to some fans newer always means better and in the last 3 years or so they have been proved wrong over and over again. They wil do a song and dance and defend mediocre players linked to utd and buy the same stand rip into our own mediocre players.
I seriously still would not say no to another top class CB a CM and a Winger
-----------------------------------
I'd rather us spend a huge sum on a CM, and let Jones and Smalling prove their worth (or lack of) along side Evans and Rojo (with Blackett and Keane as backup).
There is a huge lack of world class CBs, so it is a position we should just try to trust our own. We wont get Hummels and Benatia is not gaurnteed to step up to PL.
CBs: Jones, Smalling, Evans, Rojo, Blackett, Keane
Left side: Shaw, Rojo, Young
Right side: Rafael, Young, Valencia
I really don;t see that as being a bad defensive squad..... Far rather cash spent on Carvalho, Khedira or the holy grail
Funny that because I have read a lot of pundits and footballers say he is much better as a wing back.
------------------------------------
Care to link to any of these?
I'll trust the opinion of people who live and breath the Portuguese league, for now.
Anyway, my point seems to have been missed. I will word my article better, next time.

potentially plus nani (6-8mil)
16 million got chelsea felipe luiz
Mateo Musachio of villareal will be an infinitely better signing
I would rather utd double it and bought a worldclass player like benatia
