Raheem Sterling how good is he?

Rodgers said the way he played was similar to Messi not that he was the new Messi

He's really only been in top form since the turn of the year, he was very poor for the first half of last season and all reds will remeber that game v Hull when it looked like he'd never kick on.

But he has come on leaps and bounds in the past 8 months, Rodgers has got him playign with confidence and shown huge faith in him by playing him at number 10.

Having watch him very closley last season you coudl see he's was more then just another tricky winger that many of us thought he was.

Playing at the number 10 role he demonstrated his football intelligence and natural talent, this sets him aside IMO from other young talents as he is just such a naturally gifted player, not just his technique but he just knows where to be and what to do with the ball.

Of course he still makes the wrong decision and his finishing needs more work but I honestly can't think of a 19 year old player who is so mature in terms of how he plays. For me he's the best 19 year old I've ever seen and I think he will be Liverpools next superstar and go on to be an elite player.

Would he get into the chelsea side? Probably not the best 11 but I'm sure Chelsea fans would like him on the bench.

I'd put him in, in the Chelsea first XI. Alongside Hazard and Shirley but then you'll have folks whinging about how those 3 dont have good defensive workrate and they dont track back enough.

My opinion is that on 2014 form he would get in any team in the league.
Before the start of 2013/2014 none of the top 4, for England sake i hope he carries it on. Could be a world beater.

If Sterling was to get into our team he would have to start ahead of Schürrle. But I wouldn't want to drop Schürrle at the moment as he seems to be playing with huge confidence.

Hazard - Oscar/Willian - Schürrle/Sterling

Sterling gonna become a top player though.

Okay, just my two cents here...i think Sterling is a brilliant player and fits perfect within the setup that Liverpool have. Now, take Sterling out and have him join another club and see if he produces the same level. Not so sure.

I think Sterling benefits from the way Liverpool play. If anything, I think 50% of a players success comes from how a team plays each week. Sterling isn't in his peak yet so its hard to say if he would adapt at any level.

Two minds here... Purely due to the world cup..

In the first game, raheem played centrally and was possibly the best offensive player on the park, don't forget that he made the sturridge goal, sterling won the ball back early in midfield due to his pressing and tracking and split the Italian defense with a ball to rooney.

Rooney delivered a wonderful cross for a tap on, buy that could have been played any time, sterling putting rooney and studge through 2 on 2 from the england half after winning the possession was the key there.

In the other games he was shifted wide to accomodate the ineffective rooney and was less impressive. Because out wide he had a less free role to play his natural (liverpool coached) game, and had to provide more fullback cover in Hodgson's team.

Given freedom he would excel in any team, it's restricting his play which inhibits him.

Fantastic player.

I don't think the opposition fans on here have watched Sterling. The first thing that jumped out at me when he came into the first team was his defensive work. He uses his pace a strength to get back and win the ball back and then drives forward. Not only that but his tactical discipline is outstanding. That's before you even get into his attacking traits. The amount if times he spins and picks the right pass is ridiculous, especially for one that some people feel is a player who gets the ball and dribbles down the line. That's just not his game.

I think it's gone past the time when he's called a promising young player, right now, he's one of the best players in the league and I'm not one for overrating players.

Agree completley. I typed "fantastic prospect" at the end of my post.. Thought about it then went back and changed prospect to player..

Even if his development stopped now forever he would still be one of the best players I've seen, he seems to have it all.

He's start over Willian or Oscar for sure. Possibly even Schurrle although his form has been great recently

Is it? Seeing as I only go to watch liverpool (and occasionally swindon/Salisbury/weymouth games) and am 27 (meaning I missed Dalglish/Barnes at his best/ rush at his best) there's not many to rank above him.

Torres fowler gerrard alonso suarez at their peaks for sure possibly Mcmanaman.

It's difficult to debate the nuances/quality of a player with people who only see him play twice a year.

You've never noticed anyone on the opposition teams then? Maybe Ronaldo or Bale for example?

Actually never seen them live!

I live in the south, good luck getting a ticket for one of the big games!!

Even then, it should be patently clear to you by now that I am talking about Liverpool players?

Sterling is brilliant, will probably be England's best player in a couple of years.

The whole statement. Wait until he plays against a good team.

Brana or Zaba would crush him.

He's got potential but there is no way he'd get in Chelsea or Manc City's first XI

Yeah and you lost. Why would we want him in our team.? He's a good young player, nothing more.

No I'm not. Is Januzaj better than any Chelsea AMF? No! Nor is Sterling.
