we'll see the best of Mata when he has runners around him which give him options like he had at chelsea. Dross like Young, Cleverley, Fletcher and Valencia dont help his cause as they stand still and are only interested in sideways passing.
I don't see it as a bad thing if we have three players of their quality battling for two places.
I also don't believe it's unthinkable that one of the three might play as an inside forward in a 4-3-3, thereby accommodating all of them. If it were Rooney, he could play fairly narrowly, not far from the centre, with ADM providing more width on the other side.
I like Mata but I wouldn't put him up with the best players in the league.

Silva, Toure, Hazard, Fabregas and Cattermole.
I think mata at his best is far more effective than silva, for my money.
I think his best season at chelsea yeilded 55 goals/assists. thats an outragieous return. He orchestrates less but is more effective imo.
Mata played well on the weekend, kept the ball well but simply didn't have the movement around him.
I have noticed he does slow things down a lot, but when we have Di Maria it shouldn't be an issue because he can turn possession into attack into a split second.
That is what we missed this weekend, we had so much dead end possession in the Sunderland half but had nobody to break them down.
Best player in the league? I'm a big Mata fan but calling Mata the best player in the league, now that Suarez has left, is just nonsense.

For the football purist he is a world class player, for people like me who value Hard work and defending just as much as anything else he is not a player I would value that highly in a team,
but that's me everyone has a different view,
he does slow things down as well and his so slow when running
People who think he can play in CM like a modric or Fabregas will soon realise how suicidal that would be

Yes, playing him in cm is just a ridiculous notion.

I agree with that
Mata is a superb player on the ball and given space as good as anyone in the league. However put pressure on him he appears to wilt IMO. Judging players as the best in the league is difficult IMO. If we are talking about the most effective in their positions then I think players such as kompany, aguero, toure, fabregas are better
Silva, Toure and Fabregas are definitely better midfielders than Mata (imo). You could make an argument for him against any other player I reckon.
Make an article on other boards and ask them who the best player in the league is. Pretty sure Mata wont be coming up too often. Like I said. Im a big fan. Didnt want Mata to leave Chelsea but calling him the best player in the league is over the top.
Mata is a fabulous player but it's all about using him the right way. Fitting him into a system can be difficult. I think he also needs a forward with real pace to feed balls through to. If United sign Nigel De Jong this week (as has been widely reported could happen) I'd personally try a midfield diamond 4 with Mata at the tip of the diamond and with at least one forward with real pace ahead of him.
................DDG...............
Rafael..Jones..Rojo..Shaw
............De Jong...........
Herrera.................Di Maria
..............Mata...........
......Rooney.........Welbeck....
I think the above team could do real damage. Pace in the wide areas supplied by Shaw, Di Maria and Rafael. Solidity in front of back 4 provided by NDJ. Mata at the tip of the diamond feeding Rooney and a pacey Welbeck. I'd love to see it tried out. RVP being the man to drop out but he's not a bad player to have in reserve.
Im never ever gonna judge a number 10 on his ability to defend because for its not relevent, he isnt in the side to do that.

Definitely United's best player, I'd say Silva out of all clubs though
Sergio Aguero is the best player in the league IMO
Oh, you're wrong
The fact he is a luxury player alone, for me means he cannot be the best player in the league.
Doesn't do nearly enough off the ball to be considered the best in the league. Best of his ilk. that's an argument to be had. I do prefer him to Silva myself.

In some sides where a number 10 is used in the traditional sense
City and Chelsea don't use a number 10 in the traditional sense
and we will be the strongest teams in the league btih their number 10 type players are nasri and silva, both have mata esque vision, however also have pace and strength and play on the flanks when defending.
It is that adaptability and those attributes that Mata lacks so in any other position other than a free role he wont be effective.
Silva isn't great defensively and Nasri isn't in the same league as Silva or Mata in terms of vision and technique.
Silva is probably the nicest to watch, but Mata is as good as any in the league in terms of effecting the outcome of a game.
