That is 5 out of 10 outfield players, with a squad that most say is thin anyway, that makes a huge difference. If the midfield was better, the attacking third would instantly be better.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
BB made that comment in response to someone saying about 12 players being out injured. so what he says is correct.
Just saying.
Let;s have it right, only Evans, Rafael, Shaw, Carrick and Herrera are potential starting players who we have missed, and one of two of those need replacing.
-------------------------------------------
So we are missing 5 first teams... That's already a big deal... But also their stand ins were missing... That's a massive deal.

Would any of those 5 players named get into the City or Chelsea sides?
That is the reason I say Top 4 is far from a given and certainly the title is way out of our grasp.

I was replying to this...
"only Evans, Rafael, Shaw, Carrick and Herrera are potential starting players who we have missed"
Saying it was ONLY 5 first teamers out. I'm not saying they are good enough for top 4, but having 5 first team players out would affect any team.
I've said all summer that we need a CM and CB, proably a RB too.
That;s not the point I was making though.
When 5 of your first team players are injured, and then 5-6 of the next level down of squad players are also injured.... It has to be taken into account, when looking at results and playing style.
I have already said we are in the battle for 4th and wont win the league. Maybe if we got Vidal and Benatia, I would reconsider, depending on how fast they settled.
I think that spending what we have will boist expectations amongst United fans and fans of rival teans. We can't now sut back and write the season off because of the learning curve. We need to pick up 3 points against Burnley, whatever it takes and then get working on learning the new formations in training.
Spending the kind of money we have and getting in this manager who's been there and done it all, I'm now expecting third place with only Chelsea and City above. But we had better wake up and sort it out.
The season for us begins on Saturday so someone better tell Phil Jones.

--------------------------
Couple of things, it doesn't matter how good/poor the replacements are, they were injured as well.
secondly, we do not need to finish above Chelsea or City to finish in top 4. There has been many seasons where we have arguably had worse players than our rivals but still won the league.
I'm not saying we will win the league, but we should get top 4.

I understood your comment m8, but BB made his comment in response to a claim of 12 players being out and thats the context it should be taken in.
How many of those would get into the Chelsea or City first 11?
------------------------------
How many of our title winning team would have?
I think it will be a tough battle between Liverpool, utd and Arsenal for 3rd 4th 5th as things stand.
Sid is right, I was merely point out that of the 12 missing players only half of those were ever likely to play to begin with (our first teamers).
The replacements, Lingard, Ando, Lindergaard, Fellaini, I can't even think of any others so my point is still valid, the injured players we are missing are poor and even the first 11 wouldn't make it into many of the current top 4 sides.
How many of those would get into the Chelsea or City first 11?
My guess is 0.
=================
It's not always about that though. We have had scenarios where rivals had better players but we had the better team.
Last year, none of Liverpool's back 4 would have made Chelsea or City's team, didn't stop them finishing second

You are right, but you think we are going to go on and get 80+ points now? We have lost 5 already and LVG still wants a couple of months to get the squad in shape.
By that point we could be 15 points behind the top 4.
I think LvG is trying to temper expectation. We have been unfortunate with injuries.
It will not take months for us to get the system right, I believe the top 4 is within reach.
