Not really fair. But expected since the money of Man City and PSG owners is talking.
Yeah the brown envelopes have arrived
tbh im not sure this is the best solution, means either madrid or barca wont be a top seed, likewise with city or chelsea (unless they win it)
would provide a real incentive to win the domestic leagues though
Wait so the winners of the random leaguelike ukraine ajax ect would be in pot 1?
Arsenal fans wginging again, win your league = top seed, simples!!
my guess would be:
england
germany
italy
spain
france
portugal
russia/holland
For the go oner infants who invaded the City thread on our CL draw
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
For the sensible ones who put a coherent argument, looks like you lost, so I will understand your upset, but on the positive side it may encourage whoever decides transfer dealings there to buy a striker and actually compete rather than trousering the profits from the 4th place trophy. That may not be good news for City
Of course European pedigree should have no relevance, Bolton Blue. If you don't win the title for the next 3 seasons but do well in the CL, you guys would be wringing too. So get off your high horse.
We didnt make the rules, we just follow it.
And If this change is imposed, likewise we'll just follow it
Sounds fair to me. Champions should be in Pot 1, 4th place should be in Pot 4.
So how your national team performs will impact the champions League? Or am I not understanding this?
JI
I'm not on a high horse, really. Don't like the whole idea of the CL money and subsequent manipulation of groups so TV can pay for a predictable mini -series, not a football competition. If we get to the next 3 finals without winning one, but don't win the PL, we shouldn't be in Pot 1. Please bookmark, and if I go back on what I have said, feel free to name and shame.
Too much money in the CL, it is that which has ruined football, bringing owners in who know the only way to the trough is to spend up front. City have been beneficiaries, but it doesn't make it right.
So how your national team performs will impact the champions League? Or am I not understanding this?
Hope not, the English teams would all be in Pot 9.
Mamba
Hope its not the National teams, or all English teams will be in pot 120, think it will be some sort of club performance ranking for members of each league.
Sorry Boris, great minds, or fools!

had it been implemented this past week the top seeds would have been:
R Madrid
A Madrid
Man City
Munich
Benfica
Juve
CSKA
PSG
This would have left Arsenal, chelsea, Barca, Dortmund, Porto etc as second seeds.
Could make the group stages a little more interesting by not necessarily having the same teams as seed 1 everytime.
I understand why City fans would want this, but what about teams that have had to grind and suffer for years to become a top seed?
In Arsenal 1st few seasons in champs lge, we had to do exactly what City/PSG etc are doing right now, without the bonus of a sugar daddy to spend millions to improve our squads?
Why is it ok to change the rules now and not before?
And how long before they decide that this new rule should be changed again?

Simply to make it a proper competition, rather than seeing 8 or more of the same teams qualify every year Also it will make teams try to compete to win domestically, not just focus on the millions that can be made from winning the 4th place trophy. For Wenger, he will have to buy a striker, so Arsenal fans will actually benefit.
Seems stupid to change it. You had to earn the right like Man utd Arsenal Chelsea did. Having said that if Man city don't win the league this season they won't benefit.

I think this is a rather myopic point of view. Have the like of Juve or Shaktar or CKSA etc not earned the right through their own domestic performances?
Rewarding the strongest federations with a top seed for their champions seems quite intuitive.
And nor should we Hafi. Either put the Champions in Pot 1, or rename it the ' Bit above Mid Table, so not very good, but marketable' League. Putting 4th place teams in Pot 1 is a joke. Will mean teams other than the usual suspects getting through the group stages hopefully.
I think this idea will be axed after UEFA realise how stupid it is. The current system is fair for everyone. If you don't qualify for europe like Man utd we take a big hit for 1 year. The current rules reward consistency in europe and qualification to europe competitions.
ita honestly worse than what we have now. Porto and Ajax would probably be seeded above City or something like that.
