team sheets don't win matches

Right now I'd say the latter, but none of us have seen the former play together yet, it may all click in the coming months

On paper there isn't a great deal between them.

Add Matic to the Chelsea list and I think that tips the balance in their favour, at least until we can say Herrera / Blind have transformed our midfield.

It's very close, at the moment you would obviously say Chelsea. Do the Utd lot have more potential? Perhaps.

The issue is supplying the those front three, who are the difference between the two for me.

The Utd line up looks on paper to be superior IMO. But there is something not clicking with them. You can see the teams facing Utd appear to smell blood these days.

We're not judging them on individual talents.

These players have to fit into a system / team that gets the best out of all of them.

Chelsea under Mourinho look far more dangerous than LVGs United but the season is young - not that I expect a u-turn in their positions.

Its not about those players, both teams have great players and plenty of options.

Its the ones playing behind them that are more important to both teams and Chelsea have the better players by a wide margin.

The Man Utd team may have the more stellar names with huge price tags but the Chelsea side looks more balanced.

Much depends on whether Van Gaal can get that Panini sticker book collection of players working well as a unit. If he can then they will be a force to be reckoned with but it certainly won't be easy.

Both teams will concede a hatful - that is a given.
Allowing City to slide on past the pair of you.

Mourinho will blame Fabregas and van Gaal will blame Woodward.

I notice that chelsea's stars are younger and Chelsea can expect more from them whereas most of the Utd ones are at or nearing the end. pretty equal on paper though.

For now without doubt the Chelsea lot and by some distance, that said the United have some serious talent there too. The difference is in the United players you have there includes some dross (Young and arguably Valencia) , some untested in the PL (Herrera, Di Maria & Falcao), some with questionable fitness (RVP, Falcao and Rooney), a Mata with patchy form and an inexperienced albeit talented Januzai.

The Chelsea counterparts all look to be at home in the PL (Salah aside who is young) and just seem right to me.

In terms of talent they are pretty close so things could change if you ask the same question a year from now but given the facys I have now and theirs respective ages there is no way I’d swap what we have.

Mourinho is also key.

The only Chelsea players I would take from that lot are Fabregas and Hazard the rest are just downgraded versions of what we have.

That is unless Cities defence keep on allowing players like Diouf to glide past them, of course.

And yet Chelsea will still finish at least 15 points ahead of you this season.

Very likely yes, their defence is far stronger and they are far more used to playing together and with the system they play.

I will be fascinated to see how Van Gaal gets all of Rooney, RVP, Falcao, Mata and Di Maria into the same side effectively.

I'm saying that it can't be done and at least one of those players will have to make way.
