I'm sure everyone is envious of our signings like Kim kallstrom and yaya sanogo. Also our unprecedented amount of 4th place trophies and bank balance trophies.

How have unite sold out. I will give you City and Chelsea but United are spending money they have earned and to be honest, only a small portion of it which is what clubs are supposed to aim to do rather than get to the top via a rich man's pocket.

World class players integration with academy players is United's identity. We have sold out to Mr Van Gaal, and fans like Stretty and W&R.

They are spending money like a drunk, unemployed lottery winner.
Van Persie.
£6 million for a loan player indeed.
Welbeck their last Mancunian tossed to a rival.
Be assured they have lost all credibility.

What about Real Madrid, they've been spending dog's money for years.

United have well and truly sold out. Read the Whelan article. How do you think Fergie thinks about all the signings made this summer (bearing in mind before this summer the most untied spent in a window was about 68 million)

The Welbeck thread on red cafe is a smoke screen for the die hard's fans annoyance at what is happening at united. Its a fitting place to vent; the last decent mancunian developped striker in Welbeck being sold to make space for a 300k a week mecernary. United had the 'united way' of doing things and looked down thier nose at city and their scattergun approach. Now they have done the same and understandbly a lot of their fans arent happy

The only fans who will be pleased with the way united are going, are the playstation-fifa new fans obsessed with spending and big names

How many players have Arsenal 'developed' over the past few years? Wilshire is probably it, is it?

Ox, Ramsey, Chambers, Walcott, Szczesny, Gnabry, Gibbs were all poached from other clubs

A true article, but the younger generation don't care that we are a successful self sufficient business model as well as a football club competing at the highest level.

All they want to do is moan that we haven't bought the expensive world class player in every position we needed to fill. Indeed they say we have had a terrible transfer window even though we signed 5 players including the world class Sanchez. What do these fans expect? Well a CB and DM is what we all would have liked extra but 7 new players in one window is a bit much.

My query is to how people are lumping United together with city and Chelsea as having 'sold out'. the amounts are obscene but still, its their money, fully earned.

Hocking the entire club to the hilt, so you can pay for plastic surgery and teeth whitening to look nice for the odd passing billionaire. How terribly middle class.

Well said Dirty!

There is a need for instant gratification among the kids that lacks class - these legal highs may have something to do with it.

Not sure that any club that found themselves in the position of United (with similar resource) would act any differently.

Wild_ Rover

The term you were looking for was “purchased”. Poached implies a wrongdoing which obviously was not the case.

So you are allowed to generate hundreds of millions in profit but not allowed to use it? If you do then you have sold out?

Let me tell you this Psycho.

There was a day at Highbury when fans around me booed a young Thierry Henry - wanted him gone.

In the same way Wilshere will be given the same chance that Ramsey had to develop and I believe he will shine.

Never for us the throwing mud tactics.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Arsenal spend £42m on Özil and £35m on Sanchez?!

Let's not think Arsenal are an innocent party in all this because it's far from the truth.

Selling Wilshere to Utd would have been unheard of, however Utd selling us Welbeck is very similar and the players are of the same calibre. Fergie would never have done that!

Such a simplistic view, if you look at it that way. Heck, even Chelsea look like they're pulling a profit ffs

All the money for those purchases was self generated and can be sustained this is the point.

It's Up For Grabs Now

Giving youth opperunity has to be correlated with remaining competitive.

My point was that any club (Arsenal included) that found themselves in United’s position would ensure they made every effort to get back into the CL.

If that was to the detriment of youth development then so be it, as the club’s entire business model and structure is based on CL participation.

It just so happens that United's turnover dwarfs 99% of other clubs and can utilise it when required (in accordance with PL spending contraints).

And Man Utd can sustain the spending as well, even more so than Arsenal could because Utd are a bigger club and generate more money. It;s not like the Glazers dipped into their pockets and help finance this, quite the opposite. Utd still have over 100m or so to spend in January, plus another 100m or so next summer.
-------------------------
City and Chelsea are the main clubs I was thinking of but what is the level of debt UTD are carrying now? It will be pretty scary I would have thought, and if this is the case they are not sustaining their spending.
