With so few games, they'll walk the league. Only reason we challenged last season.
................
No it wasn't.
But denial in how big a part it played doesn't become you.
Just looking through bets for the weekend, how many times do United fans thing LVG will say philosophy this weekend?

We won the title and CL in the 2007/08 season with the exact same start. It's too early to make judgements. However, we definitely will not be winning the league this season. It will be a tough struggle to get CL football but possible.

Were those 3 games against teams that will all struggle to finish above 12th, with one probably going down?

Reading, Portsmouth and Man City before the sheiks so yeah pretty much

Simply put, nobody can say how big an impact it had.
........................
It gave your thin squad ample rest between games, and it gave your manager more time with the players on the training ground.
Of course it had a big impact.
No one is saying this as if it is derogatory to Liverpool.

I was on your board in January, when most of your fans were only seeing you get top four.
I said you had a very good chance of going for the title, in part because your players were staying fresh and not getting injured in European games.
No one is taking away how well Liverpool did last year, but being in Europe had a big part in it.

Man td scored 1 more goal this season compared to 07-08 season. Can Man utd reach 19th spot again if results go against us this Saturday I think we can be 19th again.
Because obviously more teams that weren't in Europe haven't been as good as Liverpool were.
Liverpool fans get their knickers in a twist over the very mention of it being a benefit and try to twist it to make out everyone was saying it's the only reason you challenged for the title. This wasn't the case, well not the case with people discussing the advantage rationally, but so many of your fans just disregard it as a factor in your season.

Don't tell me that is Champions League Last 16 week!
Do Liverpool throw the CL for 4th spot?
Decisions, decisions.
Liverpool might be in europa league by then.
So 8 extra games over 6 months makes that much difference in terms of time with the squad etc.
.............
Of couse it does.
This is time when;
1. Players are not getting injured.
2. players are not at airports, bus terminals, hotels etc.
3. Players are spending more time on the training pith devoted to tactics, and technical aspects.
Surely you have not been out of Europe that long that you have forgotten playing on a Wednesday night, getting back on a Thursday and playing at mid day on a Saturday, or playing a prem game on a Sunday, to be playing in the far reaches of Russia on a Tuesday.
Again, no one with any sense has said this is why you did so well last year, but to think it was not a massive bonus is sticking your head in the ground.
^ ^
4. Complete tactics change from the CL game to the PL game - can confuse the odd youngster!
There is no single reason for Liverpool' finish last season. A mix of the factors below all contributed to what was a very good season IMO
More than one player having an incredible season. Liverpool were blessed with Sturridge, Suarez, Henderson, Sterling and Gerrard all having at least patches of very good form. That isn't to say all will replicate that form every year though.
Other teams underperforming or not being as strong as they should be. I would say us, spurs and Chelsea would be disappointed with the overall performance last season and I expect all 3 teams to push further than last year
No Europe. Yes this helped but I do think a lot of people are going ott with this. I think to get a good idea you would need to look at Liverpools results in the weeks where they didn't have a mid week game but others in Europe did and what their results were to gauge how this impacted the European playing teams and Liverpool. If every week the European teams equalled or better Liverpools results, then I would be inclined to think that it has less of an impact than even I suspected. If Liverpool generally picked up more points in these weeks then they may find that this season 6+ results could be affected slightly. I can't be bothered to do this
I think these factors all combined to the second place finish. The reason I think Liverpool will have a harder year is I don't see all those players equalling the previous years form, there will be more games to play which could affect some results that weren't an issue last year and I think Chelsea, ourselves and spurs at least will all be better this year.
Great season though and you were good to watch, be if you replicate it then fair play.
United have 35 odd games to go.
Liverpool (as they seem to be flavour of the day here) are looking at 50 odd.
Wenger says that there is a "Red Zone" where players are more likely to pick up serious injuries because of too many minutes.
As a team that has suffered from the curse of the Red Zone for 16 consecutive years, I can tell you that you are entering a world of pain.
Yes this helped but I do think a lot of people are going ott with this.
.................
The only people getting hung up on it are the paranoid dips.
To those of us who have played in Europe, it is easy to understand.
