Agreed!
Champions should get preferential treatment.
This is a pretty decent idea
Champions of Russia though?
I don't even know who that is at the moment and they'll certainly ensure an easy group for one of the big teams in pot 2

So if Manchester City, Barcelona or Real Madrid don't win their respective leagues then they will not be in pot 1 where as CSKA Moscow and Benfica will be in pot 1, above them, even though they're not as good. Disgraceful.
Nothing wrong with this idea. What was wrong however, was Arsenal, who haven't won the league in 10 years being ahead of a team like City in the seedings who have won the league twice in the past 3 years.
The Champions of each country should always have preferential treatment.
The better way to go seeding wise.
You win your league your seeded. Simple and straight forward.
Personally, i'd prefer no seeds but that's never going to happen
Makes a lot of sense. I wonder how the seedings will work after that, whether it will just carry on as normal.

Pot 1 hasnt helped you at all though. You keep going out in the last 16.
Arsenal always exit at the last 16 or quarter finals anyway, pointless.

Why should they get an easy ride just because the bought the league title with there millions spent?
City have been pathetic in europe despite spending all that cash. No doubt they will be going out again at the group stages.
Cry me a river, you should've played better against them then.

UEFA, someone's finally followed through with a sensible suggestion. No seedings at all would be better but this is a move in the right direction.

No, it definitely needed changing, surely there was a better way though.
The old system that kept has-beens like Arsenal in pot 1 was a bit of a joke. City were stuck in hard groups year after year despite finishing above the Gooners in the league, while Arsenal repeatedly used their top seed to finish second in their group and go out in round of 16. It was laughable

That is true to an extent.
Man City hadn't been in Europe for so long that they needed to get their points from scratch. Which has led to them having extremely difficult groups to qualify from. Which even though i'm not a Man City fan is quite harsh considering they have won the league.
Arsenal on the other hand have qualified for the last sixteen years or so, so have had a base of points to work with. Which gets them easier groups and allows them to keep in the top seeds by getting knocked out in the last sixteen or the quarters. Without ever threatening to win it.

They haven't done well in Europe because with the current, flawed system they've been put into hard groups. Arsenal have kept up their record of qualifying from groups because the current, flawed system has given them easy groups every time allowing the club to slip into a malaise where they're able to finish 4th every season and then have an easy CL group waiting for them.
