Phoenix, yes I know. Which would likely promote City up to second seeds.
The issue of so many players from the same league in pots one and two will still be prevalent.
It's an issue now, but I think this further complicates matters and makes the draw far more predictable.
*teams from the same league
Why not scrap the rule where you can't play a team from your league in the groups?
Make it something like no more than 2 from the same league in a single group, and we'd see much less of the same teams facing each other every year.
Terrible idea, why shouldn't the seeding for a European competition be based off European performance, it makes far more sense than basing it off domestic performance...
and Russia and Portugal may as well have just done away with seeding altogether than come up with this mess.
To be honest, why see it as a harder group?
Surely Arsenal (for example) drawing a group of CSKA Moscow, Sporting Lisbon and Malmo is easier than other draws theyve had?
Or perhaps (because apparently they are so weak) Benfica and Arsenal (cause currently they are same pot), with Ludogorets and Ajax.
Why not scrap the rule where you can't play a team from your league in the groups?

This new seeding system is no longer based on the past, so I don't see why Portugal's past achievements has anything to do with it.
Why are you so clueless about European football currently?

you do realise im not talking exclusively about the last decade, but what i am saying can be extended to the current ranking, where despite being in such a far "superior league" and ever present over the past 14 years arsenal can only wish to achieve what porto and benfica have done in the same time frame, or the same for man city over the last 5 years? lets not discuss spurs or liverpool.
only 2 (english) teams have a better record (or at least a more 'meaningful' presence in european competition) over the last 10-12 years than the portuguese teams and they are united (who arent even in any this year) and Chelsea.
For all the 5 titles that liverpool have, and the everpresent arsenal for 14 years and the billions city have spent, and.... whatever tottenham think theyve done it means nothing.
And this is reflected even in the coefficient rankings.

.......................................................
Weird that in the last decade of your arbitrary time frame, Liverpool have won a European Cup and no Portuguese team has. If you want to extend that time frame so that Porto are included then I suggest we extend it to 14 years and suddenly Liverpool have won a UEFA cup, European Cup and made another European Cup final.
So Porto hardly outdo them.
There have been 3 English CL winners in the last 10 years, a super consistent Arsenal and.... well Man City.
Also 5 non winning finalists out of the English clubs, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea all once and United twice.
Only if we go back an extra year do we see a Portuguese team in the final.
To be honest, it seems like he's just trying to stick up for Portuguese teams in relation to seeding by talking about their record in Europe without actually making a point and just comparing it with English clubs, in which it doesn't really reflect anything because the two don't compare consistently in the competition.
In terms of seeding, Porto winning the CL is about as relevant as Ajax winning it. They shouldn't be ranked above Arsenal or City because they won it when they were good because they've been shiiit in the tournament for years.
I support the new approach. The "Champions" of the 7 leagues and defending champion should be seeded not teams who finish 4th and play qualifiers to get into the competition
the champions of the top 7 countries and the champions of the champions league are top seeds... from then on its top seeds anyway, so arsenal will continue to be 2nd seeds without winning anything and man city will move up to 1st seeds or 3rd depending on if they win the league or not.
I was not necessarily supporting portuguese clubs, but rather the notion that for some reason city or arsenal should be higher ranked than either porto or benfica considering that in europe even over the last 5 years the english teams have hardly out performed them.
Keeping in mind that a win in the europa provides the same amount of points as a win in the ucl.
whether or not that is 'fair' is a far more appropriate and 'correct' discussion than if (based on current rules and regulations and coefficient points and their distribution) arsenal/city/liverpool should be higher seeds than the 2 portuguese clubs.
Also keeping in mind that porto's 'slump' has happened at a time when although performing at a similar level to some english clubs, theyve done so with a larger profit than the english clubs have actually spent (400 mil profit over last 2 seasons i believe it is?)
Hell if net spend should be a factor in seeding then Arsenal definitely earned their first seeding over the years. 400 also sounds a bit high?
Not City but Arsenal's record would be at least a match for the Portuguese in the CL wouldn't it?

Can't really see this affecting Man U, Chelsea and City, cos all 3 tend to win the PL every season, so will always all be top seeds.

I take it Robbie Raeside was just wumming as its impossible for more then one team to win the league every year but Forza is a plonker Man utd won the league just 1 year 5 months ago so there is no year(s) as there has not been 2 year 's' but just 1 year and a bit. Man utd might be top seeds by winning the league this season.
Besides it doesn't really matter if Man utd qualify next season for CL while not being top seeds when you have the likes of Falcao if he signs Di Maria Herrera Blind Rojo etc Man utd won it in a harder way in 98-99 and 07-08 after having to overcome tough tests.
