Who exactly are our modern day rivals?

Considering how much your fan base bicker about the club id say you were your own rivals.

Are u just basing it on ja606

I'm basing it on the many Arsenal fans I'm friends with and a lot of the voices in the press.

Are u suggesting our club is in turmoil?

No I'm suggesting you all bicker like 13 year old school girls.

Spurs. From Monday to Sunday. Everyone else is just a passing tiff.

I actually don't expect United to compete for trophies for some time so I would think at present our main rivals are

If that's what you expect then wouldn't that make us your main rivals? Going for top 4 and not really competing for any trophies...

I would like it if started considering Chelsea as serious rivals! The champions league quarter final where bridge scored that goal to eliminate us possibly messed our best chance to win a european trophy!

We never took them seriously then but we need to now. They are actually the biggest threat to our dominance in London

Yeah....

In terms of competing against each other this season you are probably closer to United, and maybe Liverpool than you are Chelsea and City....

I think us only settling for Top 4 was a result of our inability to compete with United for the best players on the transfer market and the mercurial skills of Ferguson.

Once we were now able to sign the likes of Sanchez plus the departure of Fergie it meant United lost the competitive advantage they had on us.

I also think losing Giggs, Rio, Vidic and Evra in one summer has also impacted your team more than most people realise. You currently don't have enough leaders to drag you through your transition and the expecting on LVG are just too much.

Obviously City and Chelsea are not insurmountable so United may very well surprise a lot of people like Liverpool did last season. However you have simply list too much in the last 2 seasons for me to realistically expect you to consistently compete for the major honours for at least the next 3 seasons.

Arsenal are not significantly better with Wenger in charge but the change in our approach in the Transfer market and the pressure suggest we are fighting for the big trophies.

Our squad is actually overloaded but it seems we won't stop buying any time soon.

Interesting times ahead!

From Gary Neville, to Giggs to Keano, the game they most wanted to win was against Arsenal! Yes Liverpool and City were more of their traditional rivals but that's the game that generation wanted to win the most.

This is not true.

Liverpool were always the biggest rivals even if they weren't competing for the title.

You only have to listen to Fergie, and fans, to realise how big those games with Liverpool were.

But you guys haven't been consistently competing for major honours...

We are definitely in a huge transitional phase, but in terms of realistic expectations for the season, I'd say both our teams are on the same level.

@DTKF
I did say the players? That's the game that generation most looked forward to and as a club in terms of winning things that's the game United measured themselves on.

I'm trying to work out for us at the moment other than Spurs who are the rivals we should be tussling with for trophies.

Same applies to players.

Liverpool are our biggest rivals. Were then, were now. Title rivals come and go but Liverpool and United's rivalry remains the biggest in England.

To be frank I also think we are also going through a mini transition having to fit new players like Sanchez, Danny and an unsettled Ozil into our first team along with the manager messing around with the formation.

These are things United and Liverpool are also having to deal with in their respective camps aswell.

Only difference is at least Arsenal have a more settled backline and other than injuries most of the problems involve developing partnerships in midfield and attacking positions.

With Liverpool and United transition has to take place throughout the team which is what gives us the slight edge! It's not by much really and if United still had Fergie and Liverpool kept Suarez we would definitely come 5th or lower this season.

But if United manage injuries and go on the same kind of attacking run as Liverpool did last season then who knows! I don't expect your defence to get fixed overnight but if LVG is adventurous as Rodgers was last season then you will rack up the wins and put pressure on City and Chelsea.

You must realistically understand why I wouldn't want to point to 2 teams in serious transition as our main rivals as I might aswell add Spurs to the list!

Never mind DTKF! You deliberately missing the point!
It's not like I denied that Liverpool are your traditional rivals.

In all honesty, I've always seen as the utd game the one to beat along with Spurs. Even though in the past decade the gap got very big, and now it's reversed roles, there's something about that game. Especially now that RVP went there.

Spurs game will always be the main rivalry. In last decade it actually got more intense than it probably ever has.

Probably on a personal level though it's Chelsea....it's been too long we've been under their foot, Arsenal need to get back the title of best team in London. Plus everything about Chelsea stinks

That's the level you guys are at though

We've been a level above Arsenal for years now, but now that we're in a serious transition, we've dropped down to challenging for 4th alongside you guys, Spurs, and Liverpool.

You can't seriously consider Arsenal up there with City and Chelsea. They're streets ahead of your team and have been for a long time. The recent games between you should tell you all you need to know

posted on 16/10/14

Then you must acknowledge that Liverpool were always the team we wanted to beat most, not Arsenal.

In fact, from your side, I think Henry even said Spurs were always the side he wanted to beat most - even though they were nowhere near you in the league.

"never took them seriously then but we need to now. They are actually the biggest threat to our dominance in London"

I'd say Chelsea are the dominant force in London now, you can't seriously be suggesting Arsenal are?

United's rivals are always city, Liverpool and the fans hate Leeds, no matter how bad or good any of them are. The Arsenal rivalry was fun when you used to be good, but you could have been anyone that was challenging us.

The most amusing thing about b10 is he ACTUALLY believes so much of what he writes - which you would ordinarily have assumed were attempts at wumming. Makes so many outlandish, insanely deluded comments with no trace of humour and seems addicted to the ridicule that follows.

I don't really know to be honest. Tottenham and Chelsea you could argue, but isn't really about them, it's about how annoying the fans are. I don't really care for United, Liverpool or City, but their fans can be annoying as well (particularly London based United fans).

I guess the answer is I really don't care about any club other than Arsenal. I won't waste my time disliking another club.
