There isn't an abundance of top class cb's available right now.

Please don't be true. I honestly don't rate Pique at all. He never looks comfortable one on one with a defender, and would get destroyed by some of the quicker PL attackers.

There was an Opta stat that Shawcross has conceded the most penalties in the league since 2009, no thanks. He loves to hug players and drag them down in the box.

Pique is no better than Jones or Rojo?

Seriously? I know he isn't the player he was once made out to be but he can pass a ball better than most of our midfielders, not to mention he is a strong lad and good in the air.

There's been reports of the dutch lad at Celtic. Although I'd prefer a more experienced CB to join as we have plenty of young ones. We need a leader and an organiser.

Vlaar would be a good option for 18 months. And he's be cheap in January too as his contract will almost be up.

Sokratis is Dortmunds best defender, I did mention Kostas Manolas at Olympiakos this summer, but now he's moved to Roma, he's been superb so far for them

Vlaar is a player a few of my Villa supporting mates have always rated. I can't say I've seen enough of him though.

Truth is it's difficult to name more than 3/4 very good defenders in Europe right now, and they aren't available.

Pique is not as bad as people make him out to be but he is not an improvement on Rojo.
