Varane is a possibility as well. He doesn't get much game time in Madrid and it seem Ancelotti doesn't rate him as much as Mourinho.

Which is why Varane would go to Chelsea before Arsenal, so I wouldn't pin any hope on signing him.

Van Dijk looks excellent: very fast, strong, great in the air, and very good on the ball.

I appreciate the quality of the SPL isn't the highest, and obviously he would face tougher challenges in the Premiership, but I strongly believe he has the physical and technical attributes needed to succeed.

Any time I've seen him, he's looked a class above most other players on the pitch, and I think Southampton have shown that you shouldn't write a player off based on the league he plays in (Wanyama, Tadic, Mane, and Pelle to name a few).

True but they already have already bought Zouma and he hardly gets any game time so I can't see them signing Varane.

Yeah that's a point. Still wouldn't put it past Mourinho swooping for him if Arsenal happen to show a sniff of interest. Would go straight into our 1st team.

Then again, who are we kidding?! Varane would cost £25m+. Only when Hell freezes over will Wenger spend that amount, on a defender, in January.

Tbh, you made a good point about Mourinho. I wouldn't be surprised if he decide to get Varane and send either him or Zouma on loan just to block us getting him.

Having said that, has he left on good term and would Madrid sell to him?

posted on 2/12/14

Madrid would sell if the price was right. And Mourinho certainly would break the bank for a player like Varane.

Sad to see but 10-15 years ago Wenger would have been the favourite choice for talented French youngsters. Still is, to some extent, but nothing like before.

I don't know. I remember Wenger being a fan of him and blaming our scouting team for missing out on Varane. If Wenger wants him, I guess he could still find a way to make the Arsenal proposition attractive.

Personally I find Hummels vastly overrated. Boateng saved him numerous times in the world cup. Having said that, he's a lot better than what we have currently.

But i'd go for Varane.

Hummels is only 25 (well 26 in few days)!!
He has been around for so long, you tend to forget that he still has his best year to come

You're not Dortmunds appointed spokesman, Gunths, so stop flooding my article with your garbage.

Hummels said in the German media that he won't leave Dortmund ffs. Just gave you first class information.

Hummels was lying. He's hardly going to come out and say "Well lads, i'm going to be joining my top boss, Klopp, at Arsenal, this summer. Nice knowing you".

who your defenders struggle against

Wanyama is decent. Forster is ok. Ledley is awful.

Am I the only one who doesn't rate Forster? He had an awful game on Sunday.
I just hope that our players will be shooting from outside the box because he seem to be rubbish at stopping them...
