Referee was incredible, at the end when sterling got kicked in the unmentionables and not even a foul, just have to laugh.
True TOOR but it wasn't just the papers
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, as these are the idiots that read the papers and lap their crap up. If people didn't buy the crap, they'd be forced to print truth and intelligent articles.
It's not even but it nowadays.
It's click on it.
If you Google Gerrard and see the headline 'Gerrard dropped' on the metro site or whatever, and you click on it, you are part of the problem.
They make their money from advertising and the advertisers pay those sites that get the most hits.
That's because we SAS up front keeping the opposition busy most of the time
You just have to look at the ridiculous sensationalist whines throughout this thread to see how people are led by the media.

Hopefully this is the end of this ridiculous deep position Gerrard was forced to play.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wasn't so ridiculous last season when he got nominated for player of the year and racked up numerous goals and assists, was it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
SAS papered over it all.
this season when he played deep every manager had a player pressing Gerrard which took him out of the game.
Skrtel was so poor in 1st half. Improved in 2nd. Still nervy play from him. Toure was calm. Gerrard was good in 2nd. Johnson was good. Lambert as well. Lucas best of all. Hendo apart from his goal which was presented to him on a plate was poor. Sterling tried his best but against big players kicking him every time he had the ball and with a referee like Mason he couldn't do any better

So the position isn't ridiculous but because we don't have Suarez and Sturridge it doesn't work as well, is that what you mean?
Gerrard can play a few positions effectively. To slate him for where he played last season when he made the team of the year is imbecilic.
He needs to be played where he is most effective. With movement ahead of him he is quite capable of player a deeper role and has proved it. Without the movement for him to pick out, he is being deployed in a different way. He has always been a versatile player remember.
I don't think anyone is sure of what is Gerrards best position at the moment. It's likely he will play a number of different roles this year for the team. Certainly was very good tonight in a more advanced role.
He looked far more energetic today. The goal will have helped in that regard, but so will the rest.
Managing his playing time now is crucial to get the best out of him

It does make me laugh when people talk as though Gerrard playing deep has always been ridiculous. Carra was one of the first to say how much better we were when he was playing deeper. This season suddenly he should never be played there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's easy to tell who the idiots are when you see those types of comments.
I mean there's an irrefutable fact that he was nominated for player of the year, from that position and STILL they say it.

What i mean is that teams sussed us out. It has taken all the way to December for BR to realise that position is not right for Gerrard.
Whether Gerrard plays deep, high, wide he needs space.
When he has space he destroys teams.
Last season he had space from deep because we had loads of runners ahead of him engaging the opposition and forcing them back.
Tonight he had space because Leicester played brave (stupid?) in a 4-4-2 so we had a spare man in midfield.
Space = Quality Gerrard.
No space = More difficult for Gerrard.

No you didn't, now you're saying that. First you said it was because of Sturridge and Suarez, now you're saying it's because teams worked it out. It took them a whole season to work it out?
Don't forget they were already trying to do it last season and with some success.
It wasn't a case of being 'found out' the old classic cliche line of an idiot, TalkSport listener. Simply we weren't troubling teams in attack and thus they were attacking us, forcing us in to mistakes, sitting on Gerrard, as they had less to worry about.
I'm sure most Liverpool fans prefer Gerrard further forward but at 34 he can STILL play in any position.

Read it again . I made both points at the same time:
a) SAS papered over a lot of cracks with the backline and midfield
b) Teams early on this season sussed us out early on this season. A man was always close to Gerrard. Pressing him high up. Taken out of the game. He couldn't get his passing game and we all know his defensive work was not the best.
Playing Gerrard further forward was the best solution as well as giving him breaks from games which he needs. He won't perform in every game but the final 3rd is where we want our most creative/penetrative player.
I'm not arguing against playing him further forward I'm saying it's downright idiotic to label Gerrard aitting as a ridiculous position the season after he was nominated for player of the year.
the best solution is to play Gerrard deep but give him more targets up top
he's excellent in that position.
There is an argument that Rodgers took too long to change the team this season.
That's a different argument to saying Gerrard can't play deep though.
Quite clearly he can, as long as the set up elsewhere supports that.
This season it hasn't and Rodgers arguably should have sorted that earlier.

It did get silly cos Rodgers took too long to change the position of Gerrard. Gerrard gave a sneak preview when he came on as a sub against West Brom and he linked immediately with Mario which no other player has been able to do.
He then was sent deep. Marked out of the game and wasn't doing his defensive duty. Rodgers should have acted a lot sooner.
That's not completely true Kash.
The next game after Hull was QPR away and Gerrard played off Balotelli.
It didn't work though and he moved back after half time because Can and Hendo? I think were struggling at the base.
It's pretty obvious Balotelli has been a major part of our problems. Lambert hasn't done great, but he has improved our team compared to Balotelli who was offering virtually nothing.
