Red boy

Every manager has that awful moment where they have to dispose of a club favourite. It may well be a defining moment for Brendan, he's under a lot of pressure now to make this team his own. He's had the money made available.

Shame because that represented a real opportunity the way other results have gone.

Given the first pen was just plain wrong however we should just accept our point and be thankful other teams didn't stretch the gap further.

That said, maybe I should start taking Soton a touch more seriously....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I took Southampton seriously from the beginning whilst laughing at idiots predicting their relegation.

There's a big difference between relegation and CL place mate!

I didn't think they'd get relegated but never say them in the top 4. Still don't if I'm honest but they keep doing the business.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly and yet idiots thought they'd be relegated. I thought they'd be up there under the champions league places, never imagined them being in them but then Liverpool and Arsenal have been poor.

No you didn't. Do you want to see what you wrote after the home game on opening day?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I did I argued on many threads laughing at people who predicted their relegation. Don't tell me what I thought please. Thanks.

Atrocious result, and when we tot up the points at the end of the season it will be games like this where we will be counting the cost.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well yeah you generally count up the ones you didn't win.

----

Aye, but if you lose against Utd away it's a bit easier to account for that this result

We need sturridge and a new striker as simple as that. We depend on defenders and midfielders to score the goals. No one knows if Borini is a striker even himself. He drifts away from the box. His positioning is poor. Markovic is not trying hard.

Only Sakho was trying hard today. Henderson does but lacks quality and becomes an average player in tight areas and under pressure. Gerrard was a passenger.

Rodgers got his tactics wrong. Henderson can't defend. Schlupp was man of the match and Henderson could not handle him.

Poor performance in second half. Great opportunity to catch up with teams above us that we've thrown away. Midfield was a mess in second half. Complete lack of composure from us. 2-0 up with two very lucky penalties we should be holding on and winning those games.

Odd substutions. Coutinho and Sterling were linking up well so Markovic should have been on for Lallana, like for like, keep Sterling up top. Moreno was an attacking threat down the left so not sure why he was taken off for Lambert. Henderson should have been put in the middle when Lucas went off.

Credit to Leicester though. Great goal from Nugent.

The goals were pens so let not get carried away.

And he just provides so little these days. His defensive work is not up to standard for a CDM and he doesn't provide enough going forward to be a box to box midfielder or CAM. So what is he. The quarterback role is what people have come up with for it. But his passing isn't up to Pirlo standards ( the only other player who really plays this "quarterback" role) and his hollywood balls dont really suit our style.

Add to this the fact that is he makes an error which leads to a goal he just shoots every time he gets the ball and I'm really sturggling to justify his place in the team
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Penalties don't count? They're as legitimate as any other goals. I've never understood the whole "striker a is better than striker b becasue he doesn't take penalties" If the ball goes in the net, who cares how. It was more than the other 12 blokes in red managed.

I'm not saying Gerrard had a good game, because he didn't. I just think the witch hunt on here these days is ridiculous.

I fully agree Aggers. I think the club should try and keep him, he is still capable of top performances. But just not on a game by game basis. Its a situation that needs to be carefully managed for his sake and the clubs.

Can't wait until we have an actual striker

That was careless losing a 2-0 lead.

What's so wrong with taking Sterling off and putting a defender on to see the game out.

I thought we should have had Manquillo on for Henderson at 2-0 up and played five at the back

The fact that we defend our goal about as well as the French defend Paris?

Easy to say these things in hindsight but there were times in the game it looked like we'd go on and win by five.
