There are certain players who are always nominated for prizes - deservedly or not. Remember Giggs winning it one season and undeservedly. Gerrard was pretty terrible in the spring IMO
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Gerrard was fantastic last season and one of the main reasons we had a title challenge hence being nominated. Loads of goals and assists as well as creating and host of chances. He had a great season and frankly you trying to debate against that is ridiculous. It seems you have an agenda.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He was so much past it last season that he was nominated for player of the year and had his best season in years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Last season, not this season. Gerrard was excellent in a deep role helping us create chances with two top strikers up front to aim for with his passing, but they also forced teams deeper which gave him more space and time on the ball. Defensively, he wasn't great hence us conceding a lot of goals.
This season, without SAS, teams can push up more against us and he has less space and fewer targets which makes him much less effective.
Atm we need Lucas in there to help defensively since we're not great going forward. Gerrard and Lucas doesn't work, so one should be dropped, in this case Gerrard. Hendersons pressing, movement and energy in the centre suits our game much more
As for selling Gerrard, I don't want us to. He's a club legend and still a good player, and will improve with Sturridge back. But atm his form is not warranting a starting place and he'd be a good option off the bench.

Whilst I agree with you, you could say that about most of our players. Most of them are in poor form.
I haven't seen the game, computer went belly up. I said earlier that I hoped Brendan would stick with the same team, but he's our manager and we have to support him. Tell me, were we as bad as we were in the Burnley game? If so, serious time to look at the use Brendan makes of our skipper.
JimmyTheRed
No this was nit as bad as the burnlwy game. That was really bad
GO, was it a case of folding, sadly as per usual, when they scored 2 in 2 minutes? Or were we as bad before that?
JimmyTheRed
We were toothless in attack and lucky to get two penalties as we were never gonna score and did well in defence, especially Sahko but were undone by two long range shots.
TOOR
Agreed, most of our squad has been in and out of form throughout the season. But they've been dropped when poor, e.g. Coutinho, and Mignolet. Gerrard seems to be picked at all times unless he needs a rest, rather than based on form.
From our 18 today, I'd say Mignolet, Gerrard, Lovren, Borini and to an extent Sterling (who's been inconsistent) are in bad form.
The rest have been good in recent weeks,

Gerrard has been dropped also. It's more difficult to drop a top player and captain when in poor form than a lesser player in poor form, especially when you've a young team with so many new players and need the experience.
To concede 2 goals at home in 5 minutes is criminal. The amount of space they got for the 2nd goal was ridiculous, the guy who scored waltzed in and had so much time it was awful.
We are not going to finish top 4 this season.
We are not good enough.
I fancy us in the cups to do well and win something but in the league we will continue to be inconsistent and will finish somewhere between 5th and 8th.
Just not enough balance in the team over a league season. Too many inconsistent individuals that leads to inconsistent team performances and a lack of leadership in the squad when things start going wrong.

We haven't been good enough but it will all depend on how good we can become in the second half of the season.
"We are not going to finish top 4 this season."
9 seasons out of 10 I would agree with you, we are far too inconsistent this year.
But the truth is that if it carries on like this there are only 2 consistent teams in the league at the moment so the 3rd and 4th places are up for grabs in a weird lottery of who can stumble over the line at the end of the season.
Hopefully our recent improvements in play and the imminent return of sturridge will help us gain some sort of momentum and an improved level of consistency, but who knows.
Utd have been consistent the last 2 months.
They haven't always played well but they are consistently getting results, unbeaten in 10 with 7 wins is consistent.
There is a chance of 4th mathematically but realistically I don't see how it's possible.
We have only lost one in 11 and taken seven points from nine over the busy Xmas period. Today was frustrating but we are improving and are still well placed to challenge for 4th with arsenal Spurs Southampton and see how west ham continue to do.
League cup semi finals and Europa to look forward to too, it's not all bad.
Manu have been carried by De Gea for most of the last 2 months.
Whilst this has kept them in a good position to take one of the top 4 places the actual performances haven't deserved the points they have accrued and that is inconsistency.
And of their last 3 games they've only won one and drawn 2, and that is inconsistency.
In fact Stoke had a couple of nailed on penalties denied today and should have beaten them.
The manks may go on to consolidate 3rd or even higher, or they may drop back out of the top 4 again.
Anything could happen this season.
De Gea is one of their players. Him playing well is not separate from the team.
All teams are carried by their best players to some degree.
Its just silly anti Man Utd logic to suggest 10 unbeaten and 7 wins is anything other than consistency.
They have scored more than us, conceded less than us, and beat us 3-0.
There manager is getting more out of their squad than ours is out of ours, and barring a fairly unlikely turn of results they will finish above us this season.

sensible response, don't both with Sir Donkey he's the most clueless cretin on your board.
They've been consistently average, however they have consistently picked up wins and that's what matters, certainly at this stage of the season with a new manager and new players, when you'd expect them to get used to the new ways and new players to gel, in the second half of the season. Therefore they're well set up to match the wins with performances.
You are using the results to cover over the actual performances.
It's just silly to suggest that manu's performances this season have been consistent.
They haven't.
And whilst I agree entirely with your remark about De Gea being part of the team, the point is that he can't keep on saving them forever by himself and he's actually started slipping already having failed to keep a clean sheet in 3 of his last 4 games.
I said before that..." of their last 3 games they've only won one and drawn 2, and that is inconsistency."
Having just checked it's actually....' of their last 4 games they've only won one and drawn 3.'
Even worse inconsistency.
6 points out of a possible 12 in their last 4 games isn't top 4 standard.

Performances are irrelevant, to a degree.
Results are what matters, good managers know this, and Van Gaal is a good manager.
You neglect to mention that 3 of those 4 games were away from home.
Draw away, win at home, is always the basic standard to be near the top of the table.
That would get you 76 points, guaranteed top 4.
Take the blinkers off, its just embarrassing.
The only blinkers I see are the ones you are wearing.
And yes they are embarrassing.
"Performances are irrelevant"
Possibly the most ridiculous comment you've ever come out with, and you've had a few humdingers.
Over a whole season the better the performances the more points a team will accrue, 99 times out of 100. To suggest it is irrelevant goes beyond mere silliness.
As for home or away I haven't neglected anything, it just wasn't that important.
6 out of 12 points, home or away, isn't top 4 standard.
As for the Draw away, win at home and get 76 points comment well that's all very well in theory but that's all it is. They won't win every home game and won't draw every away game so it's a pretty pointless thing to come out with.
Just watching the first half. Embarrassing, outplayed by a better team, definitely. As bad as against Burnley? No, nothing can be as bad as that. Mind you, I've yet to see the second half.
