Case referred to the court of appeal by the CCRC following receipt of new evidence from his legal team.

I can't help thinking he's being persecuted by the media for his crime, he's served his sentence but every time he's mentioned they add the precursor 'convicted rapist' which is hardly helping his cause.
======================================
Hes never really in the media to be persecuted, and is a convicted rapist, so cant really see a problem there.
I dont recall him being banned from playing football, so he isnt being denied the chance to make a living, and if he cant get a club to employ him, then he could go and get another job.

He was front page when the article was first posted and tbf he has had a number of offers from clubs which were subsequently rescinded due to the morally outraged.
No doubts about him being a convicted rapist but my point was, is the conviction safe?
Interesting developments.

I've followed this case quite closely as there was a huge element of doubt from the start. It will be interesting to hear what the Moral Majority have to say if the conviction is indeed overturned.
There are a few that have posted on this article that willl look very stupid if it is overturned.
I don't know whether he's guilty or not but I do think there were reasonable grounds to doubt it based on the reports at the time.
Watching the video taken in the hotel lobby and the fact she was texting her mates to brag straight after the 'act' was enough to convince me that Evans wasn't as guilty as the masses claimed.
No doubts about him being a convicted rapist but my point was, is the conviction safe?

Well see.
If it isn't over turned, hopefully that's the end of the matter, and he moves on.
Got to feel for the victim at this time also, as details of this case will once again be dragged up for all to see.

She was the one boasting about her conquest on FB, I'm sure she'll love the publicity.

I'm no expert but my understanding is that any new evidence must be quite convincing in order for the CCRC to refer the case back to the court of appeal. If that's the case it needs to be looked at again despite the possible harm it may do to those involved.
I can't think of many worse accusations to level at a bloke than rape, and if it is overturned I hope she is prosecuted.

Well it would seem you have already made up your mind on the matter.
Personally, I will wait for the outcome of the appeal before reapportioning blame, but as it stands, hes a convicted rapist, and she is the victim.

Which in itself would go a long way to increasing the number of women who are scared to make accusations against men who have raped them, so in turn many more rapists will be walking the streets.

So, if a false accusation is made, and there are many documented cases of this, the accuser shouldn't be dealt with?
No, I'm sorry I disagree. If the conviction is overturned and she is proven to have lied she should be dragged in to court.
I've always believed he's innocent and will continue to do so unless new evidence convinces me otherwise.
Rape is a heinous crime and I wouldn't defend anyone who I consider to be a rapist.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I've always thought he was innocent but I do think there have always been grounds to doubt the safety of his conviction.
I'll rephrase that - I thought Evans was innocent after I heard the evidence.

If she has been found to have fabricated her side of the story then she should be reprimanded accordingly. Surely a term in prison and a hefty fine would be adequate.

6 months in a darkened cell with you Governor, that should sort her.
