I still prefer our system to America's.

The fact a child or young teenager can never see the outside world again because of a mistake at that age doesn't sit with me.

I agree, especially as a child or young person who did something stupid at an age where they really weren't in a position to make an informed decision...

Balls to that. If a 15 year old murders someone they know they've done wrong. Throw away the key.

They do know that they've murdered someone, and that that is wrong, but can you honestly say that at 15 you valued life and made decisions the same as you do now 10 years on?

Agree with that BB

10yr old lifers...and over there it is LIFE!!!! Crazy really.

I think somewhere in between ours, and America's way of doing things...is the actual way to do things.

We're too happy to ship em out, they'd rather keep 'em in regardless.....or feed 'em a death penalty.

I think for certain crimes, where there is absolutely no doubt the person is guilty (Ian Watkins, Ian Huntley, Mick Philpot, Levi Bellfield etc etc) we should just pop em n move on...waste no time or money on 'em!

No, but maturing with age shouldn't excuse murder.

True, but I did some stupid things when I was 15/16 that I regret now and cringe when I think about. What seems a good idea then, you would definitely change your opinion now.

Additionally, with a lack of understanding of how the body works and how fragile it is, beyond knowing that "knives are dangerous" and "guns kill" mistakes can easily be made.

Sorry but a 13 year old kid who made a horrific mistake doesn't deserve to spend his life in a cell.

In 30/40 years this is a different person to the kid who committed murder/man slaughter, and often these kids do this things as a cry for help, or were simply brought up into a world of crime.

You watch some of these tv shows and there are 30 year old men who are intelligent and have a lot to offer society, who see the error in their ways and they are wasted in a cell.

Yes but a far higher percentage get out of prison and re-offend. Why take the risk?

This is the difficulty, many of these people go back to the same people, the same way of life etc... in a democratic society, the majority have to be protected from the minority - if this means that in some cases genuinely remorseful people get a rough ride, then that is the way it is, unfortunately.

Awww. That could have been fun.

Of course I didn't read your post. By the title of it, you clearly have no understanding of what "Jihad" actually means.

Well done VC. You've conclusively proved the widely held theory that you are indeed a bit of a thick móng.

That is what 'Jihad' has come to mean though, despite the actual meaning of the word.

Well that is what the West, or more specifically those illiterate and ill informed folks in the West, have understood it to be.

The facts are rather different.

Does Jihad not translate to a war against non believers?

No, it literally translates to "struggle". In its true context it's the struggle against one self (or some shít like that).

But when you have a stupid young impressionable muslim kid who's willing to believe anything and everything in order to justify his/her means, it will take the more infamous form of terrorism and extremism.

What do Muslims mean when they say:

"jihad is declared against the infidels"?

posted on 8/1/15

Serial back in the 90s that exactly what it meant. unfortunately nut cases have taken the meaning to a new level now.
