Religion should not have a place in modern society and this needs to start with education from a young age. Explain to children that before humans began to understand science they made up fanciful stories of gods and the afterlife. It helped control the populous much like farther christmas and his presents help keep a childs behavior in order.
You'll notice the most religious countries in the world are among some of the most unstable and miserable countries in the world. It needs to be fazed out of Europe, it won't take much before Christianity is forgotten but Islam has a more binding/violent message meaning people are trapped by their families and not allowed free-thought.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Treading shaky ground there. People should be free to believe in what they want.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not saying 'tell' people what to believe I'm saying teach religion without encouraging or sympathizing with it, no bias either way.
Be clear that it derives from old books written by normal if-not-creative human beings, explain that it is equal to believing in the tooth fairly, the force (star wars), the flying spaghetti monster.
Without education peddlers/fanatics will spread their religion as fact. You will notice that currently and throughout history it is the religious preachers that want to control education because it is as a child/youth that you're most easily influenced.
As for absolute free speech, I'm against it. Cartoons like the ones in CH are harmless (unless you're the cartoonist apparently), however as a society we've already prohibited hate preachers from their right to free-speech and rightly so.
I had the misfortune of being stopped and searched under some section the terrorism act. It is surprising how angry it made me having my bag searched in public and nearly missing my train. There is a danger we wholesale give up our liberties through fear. When I hear about special measures, it concerns me more than terrorism itself.

Poor you,I can't think of anything worse than having your bag searched and nearly missing your train.........

Oh no they drew a picture of a guy who doesn't exist, and upset some deluded followers of such fictional being.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not about what you think is real or not. It's about the magazine INTENTIONALLY provoking and vilifying a section of society with something they hold dear. It's not about the actual content itself necessarily.
....
The magazine was aimed at a certain audience, an audience who buy the magazine because they enjoy the comedy and satire. I'm not sure their aim was to wind up as many people as possible.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Please watch this video containing the content and tell me what is comical or satirical about the content?
http://youtu.be/U56q428amN0
Regardless, if I wanted to do 'satire' about 9/11 would it be welcomed as equally?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You do not see a difference with mocking different religions and mocking the murder of thousands of innocent people?
Are you facking for real?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In its purest sense, as far as freedom of speech goes, there is little difference. Just the amount of buttons that would be pressed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think perspective is being lost personally.
If a Liverpool fan came on the United board to mock Munich or I went onto the Liverpool board to mock hills borough. Both of us would be banned instantly
This magazine did cartoons mocking religion and some maniacs turned up and murdered some of their employees in cold blood.
Sorry but this op is in terrible taste in my personal opinion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mate you're missing the point. How many times do I have to say that I'm not justifying actions of extremists,. I'm not even discussing that in this article.
I'm debating the integrity of the magazine and their intentions to promote social unrest and whether we as a whole should be applauding their work, despite hardly anyone having seen it.
Please understand this!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Please show me where I have applauded their work
I haven't even seen it
Ive simply condemned the actions of cold blooded murderers and refuse to try and justify their actions
I never bring up their religion because I find it incidental. Murderers murder because they are murderers.
I'd like to bring up a point regarding why Muslims shouldn't feel the need to condemn the actions of murderers when they happen to be Muslim. I agree they should not feel the need but in my opinion, if I was a Muslim I would want to
How wonderful would it be if there were marches all over the world, by peaceful muslim society, marching agianst extremism, marching against what happened in Paris. Not because they should because they don't. But because they want to. To show the world that the ignorant have it wrong about Islam. Would it not also show the extremists that the 99.9 percent of the muslim world are against this kind of murder?
I'll repeat, not because they have the need to but because they want to right a wrong understanding
It would only do an awful lot of good

Allow me to chip away at that for you. The protection of the reputation of others refers to libel and slander. The prevention of disorder and crime is more specific than you think. Only health and morals has any weight and, as I explained earlier, has been subject to a narrow interpretation in the courts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I take your word for it on reputation, but wouldn't there be room to consider that there is a danger of certain statements offensive to entire communities pose a risk for social disorder?
Also, what section would hate speech come under?
Again Dots video was a excellent post.
Things I find disagreeable.
Saudi - The fact women are not allowed to drive. Folk getting imprisonment and lashes for very little. Hence I gave no desire to visit.
japan - the fact child abuse manga cartoons are legal.
Africa - specifically areas where FGM occurs.
usa - Where male genital mutilation is normal and yet for some reason nobody cares.
I could go on and on. There are ideologies and injustices in nearly all countries. I think the anti Islam propaganda we are seeing is dangerous. Isis needs stopped but let's not kid ourselves we will do that with a few drones. This is a huge issue on a massive scale.
