So we were massive in the 50s
If all Liverpool fans were like you TGM I don't think anyone (or not too many) would have listed them
Well I'm led to believe we always got told we weren't big till we won the FA Cup by the bluenoses.
I think you won your first FA Cup a few years after us in the 60s if I'm right.
We were both small till then
Tbh Brummie, I think it shows more about our clubs fans, like yourself, who have been through unsuccesful periods and still supported the club, and enjoy the succesful years(nearly 20 years now btw) and get ridiculed for having no history. Then it does for fans who have been spoilt and then feel entitled to everything and get bitter over new teams success. "you've got no history" is the most ridiculous thing you can aim at an opposite clubs fan, it just shows you to be a fairweather fan who would only support a club in successful times, or get bitter in unsuccesful times.
I just think of it as the opposite to the glory hunter insult...
Basically if your team is successful you take the mick out of other teams that aren't.
If your team isn't successful then you take the mick out of teams that are because it is obviously the only reason they support them.
The way I see it it helps make sure everyone has something to mock, because it doesn't matter how well you do there is an insult that can be aimed at you.
By big, I mean the infrastructure of a Club Galloping.
Chelsea as an example had a ground that at one time could hold crowds of up to 100,000, our highest ever attendance was over 82,000 with dozens of attendances of over 70,000 (Liverpool's highest ever was only around 62k) until the Bridge was limited to 60k. We could regularly get huge crowds like that which is why I say sleeping giant.
It was only in the late 60s, early 70s that our paths parted in terms of size, largely down to Liverpool's phenomenal success and our decline which lasted over 20 years.
Much the same could be said of other clubs, Everton being an example, as you so rightly point out!

It's a worn-out statement but 'we all have them' SAF. Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool...
Perhaps from an outsiders perspective such as yourself or Brummie we have more than most.
For the clubs I've listed & others such as Arsenal, what they all have in common, is success & plenty of it down the years. It breeds contempt.

Of course we were just another club. Supported by our own & as you say big & bigger crowds were brought in across the country. As far as I'm concerned any club that gets to the highest level of English football & geberally stays there is a big club.
My point was though that we were a very successful club in the league before Shankly. More titles than the vast majority of clubs have achieved to date
Just another club though, yes.
TBH I'd say Chelsea have a fair few of the worst ones, but then a lot of good fans on here as well. I can't really judge Liverpool fans unbiasedly because we are always going to be more likely to dislike each other (you lot and United fans)
If I had to try anyway I might say that Liverpool fans seem to more often have what people could call an undeserved arrogance in regards to their club
Not that I am that sure how much arrogance can be deserved even with great success but it does usually bother me less if an arrogant individual is as good as they act.
Obviously success is a huge part of it though, people love an underdog but not so much the hugely successful, nothing better than seeing them taken down a peg or two.
A Liverpool fan I agree with - something feels not right

Feel its hard for you to judge considering your opening comments on this thread about decisions. How can you claim other fans are arrogant. pot.Kettle.black.
I think that most our fans on here are usually Ok, we even bicker amongst ourselves but usually to do with how we want the best for our club. We do have a few wack jobs dont get me wrong but we dont have too many fans, like other boards, who come on boards with nonsense. But I am not on these boards all the time like some so cant judge fully.
Back to the article again the song says it all - "We hate Nottingham Forest"!
The year they dumped us out of the European Cup made me ill. Like an irritation that shouldn't have been there with due respect but got bigger & bigger.
The greatest achievement by any manager to date what Cloughie did there. I still stand by that.

ironically, and to SAF_'s point somewhat, I think if Liverpool won the title some of the dislike would go away.
"how dare you have an opinion and support your club...only title winners are allowed to do that"
Brummie you made similar comments to mine just thought I should show you the folly in your rationale by doing the same to you. Look at your reaction now. If I was a wum this would be a great catch on this thread. Your comments about Liverpool were just as ridiculous as mine about Chelsea which makes all those things you've said about me since a mere description of your own self.
Nothing of the sort Mamba, you're just talking bollox - plain and simple!

Umm...are you talking to yourself here.
Kaiser its more like Liverpool fans would then become more accurate about their team, nobody has a problem with non title winning teams fans. Just the ones who think their team is something special and try and rub that in the faces of other people when their really not.

Henryscat, you are either very young, or you have absolutely no idea ! Even my dad well back in the last century Hated Arsenal,as did the whole family !Perhaps there's a gene missing or something . But.........
Arsenal.
Leeds.
Wes Ham, oh ! and Liverpool as well ,
for their gob !

harle, It would appear henryscat's memory doesn't stretch back to the 70's & 60's.
Seems like another who thinks football didn't exist before Wenger and the 'boring boring Arsenal' days of George Graham were just a propaganda tool broadcast by Radio White Hart Lane!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Which part of anything I've written would give you that impression? True, I don't remember the 60s, but then I wasn't born until the 70s - so can't really be held to account for that.
I do remember the 70s and the 80s, and I don't remember being 'hated' by anyone for the club I supported - I remember a bit of banter, but that's it. Not the real venomous stuff that comes out more these days - it's as if everyone wants to be seen as a hooligan, I thought that was all behind us. It wasn't cool then, it isn't now.
