I posted an article last year saying that Liverpool fans love an engine
a la Kuyt and now a la Henderson
I still hold this view and don't think he should be starting the number of games he does.
Yes, he's passionate but so's the woman behind me in the Kop.
You need so many attributes to be a regular midfield starter at LFC and for me, Jordan Henderson isn't the long term answer.
Unfortunately, Liverpool fans can be a protetive bunch. Once they take a player to their hearts, its hard to shift the player on - that's why Kuyt stayed 2 years longer than he should have done.
At least Henderson apologises to his team mates, Ramsay doesn't.
Had a poor game yday and probably needs a rest. Unfortunately we don't have any other CMs fit apart from Can who's essential to the defence
But overall he's an excellent player, people get on his back cos he's not gerrard. Works extremely hard, contributed to attack and defence, great vision, exclellent range of passing. He's got 10 assists this season and could have more.
His shootings pretty crap, and his set pieces aren't the best (he nearly scored on yday though) so he can improve.
Wow oppo fans are really obsessed with our game last night.
Can't remember the last time one of our games brought about so many articles from those not normally seen on our board.
As for Hendo.
He is 12th this season on the PL's own player index for midfielders, measuring everything statistically (Ramsey is 63rd). Of the 11 players above Hendo, only Toure, Cazorla, Cesc and Matic have been playing centre mid.
He has 6 assists, 12th on that table too, with even fewer centre mids ahead of him, just Cesc and Sigurdsson really (Ramsey has 2). He has 2 league goals, thats a part of his game he needs to improve, Ramsey has 3.
He is 20th in key passes per game at 1.8, with only Sterling and Gerrard having more for Liverpool (Ramsey has 1.6).
Hendo is doing fine. He is an all round player who is growing as a creative force. He didn't have a great game yesterday but was nowhere near as bad as some have made out. He hit a couple of great corners, was very close with a free-kick at the end of the first half, kept probing and had a few poor shots when well placed (but that has always been the weakest part of his game).
Can't remember the last time one of our games brought about so many articles from those not normally seen on our board.

I always click the Premier League link and check out the top articles from last 24 hrs and its pretty much like this:
Liverpool
Henderson
Liverpool
Balotelli
Liverpool
Rodgers
Liverpool
Gerrard
Liverpool
Coutinho
Well, I think Henderson's been having a good season, but didn't play well last night.
That form, along with the form of Emre Can, has been key to finally reducing our traditional dependency on Gerrard. That's the sum total of the conclusions I've drawn from the way he played in last night's game.
You've expanded it out into an analysis of his career, but each to their own.
As for Gerrard, I agree with Zidane's analysis:
''Alex Ferguson is obviously one of the most successful coaches the game has ever had. But I did find his comments about Steven Gerrard very strange. To say he is not a top player is wrong.'
'For two or three years, Steven Gerrard was the best midfield player in the world."
That analysis is maybe anathema to you, but I can't imagine Zidane's got any particular bias towards Liverpool. I guess it’s all about opinions.
I don’t know anything about Ramsey, he never seems to be playing whenever I glance at the TV and see Arsenal playing (shortly before switching it off).
He looked pretty good the last time I did see him play.....perhaps he's been on the tabs, with Wilshere and Szczesny?

To be fair, you don't need to be a doctor to see that Mamba has issues.

OP
What is 'Roy of the Rovers' style of play?
OP. Excellent article. The best I read here for a long time.
I like Metro have been accused of being wums for saying Henderson is trying too hard but in doing so making lots of mistakes with his passing, shooting and free kicks. He needs a rest

After seeing great captains like Souness, Dalglish, Hansen, Barnes, Fowler and Gerrard, I'm worried now that we are expecting Henderson to be the captain for many years to come.
Very strange that you say Henderson has suffered a drop of form just as his form has improved massively. He's really come on leaps and bounds this season. Good game last night also. Ramsey? Who cares?
I'm glad Hendo and Can are playing at a good level, it allows the youth, ie Rossiter, to develop properly, rather than being thrust in as "the next Steven Gerrard."
We've seen it a bunch with youngsters, and I'd rather Hendo and Can take the pressure than a 17 year old kid.

All I'm gonna say is that your whole family are famous on here for being crap judges of players.
Kuyt was outstanding for us and essential to the tactics Rafa employed, in fact it wouldn't have worked without him. Different players have different attributes and it takes somebody with a very narrow mind not to be able to appreciate players who aren't in the typical attribute category.
Not that Henderson is anything like Kuyt of course, they are completely different players. Henderson is very technical and has great passing ability. Kuyt was a very good finisher and was excellent at closing down forcing the opposition into mistakes, making his players take notice and join.
I like Metro have been accused of being wums for saying Henderson is trying too hard but in doing so making lots of mistakes with his passing, shooting and free kicks. He needs a rest

Well, you may even have a point, but it’s over-critical in the wider scheme of things.
Because of the TV and Press coverage, social media, etc, players are scrutinised for every nose-wipe and every fart, but in the wider scheme of things, we’ve finally (and in the nick of time) shaken off our over-dependence on Gerrard, which we’ve had for the best part of 12 years, and Hendo’s general form (along with Can's) has played a big part in that.
He didn’t play well, and there’ll be other games where he doesn’t, the same as most other players.
And Igor makes a good point about holding the fort as Rossiter develops.
What are people talking about? Hendo didn't play particularly well last night (the whole team didn't really) but in general his form is excellent and has been for a couple of months.
He's going to make an excellent captain. He's vocal, he seems to be well liked by his peers, and he is fast becoming the engine of the midfield, in the mould of McMahon and Whelan, rather than the box to box Gerrard.
All this Roy of the Rovers stuff is nonsense too. He's trying to make things happen. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Its funny how some people get criticised for this and others don't. Coutinho for example. He was poor last and misplaced so many passes. Why is not getting criticised as much as Hendo is today?
Henderson is very technical and has great passing ability.

Anyone
Roy of the Rovers style, WTF is that?
Like Billy the fish but more humane I think Vidic.
A lazy cliche for a player supposedly trying to do everything, Vidicschin.
Great
Appreciate the explanation though I think it's a little unfair but don't wish to spoil this article by discussing something else. I've been called worse even on that thread. I only presented one theory there all the others were from others some of which I disagreed with. Perhaps you should confirm who said what but fair enough.
