I think when the race for 1st (and in this case til recently 2nd) is pretty much over, they turn to the next hotly contested spot.

Same as in F1 when the leader is 40secs ahead of second etc, they'll focus on the 5th and 6th fighting for 5th place

It's embarrassing really. Can't imaging clubs in other leagues celebrating finishing Top 3 or 4. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they're delighted to get CL football but I bet you they're not jumping around the dressing room like the Arsenal clowns were last season.

Anyway like people have already said. the Premier League is Sky's first born baby. They hype up anything to do with it. A derby involving Sunderland Newcastle or Liverpool/Everton gets hyped up so much but when you watch it, theres very little football on display. Just flying tackles, red cards and shoving matches. Its one of the many things they hype up. They do a pretty good job of hyping things up though, that much must be said.

Sandy why would you even ask this question. Do you really think that Chelsea would be satisfied with 4th spot and miss out on winning the league title?

The only reason 3rd/4th spot is so obviously discussed is that as the season progresses then it becomes fairly clear who has a chance of the title and who does not. But to take one of those top 4 spots, even 3rd or 4th is very important, second only to taking 1st spot.

Because every season, 95 per cent of the teams throw in the towel before the season has even kicked off. Spurs and Bradford have shown this season that teams like Chelsea are far from invincible. City have been beaten at home on a number of occasions. There is too much negativity from teams who say well we cannot win the league, let`s finish top four. Complete cop out.

That's because they actually cannot win the league.

There's are a certain group of teams every year who can only realistically reach the top 4. They can beat Chelsea in one game, doesnt make a difference to their overall league place if they're tripping up against the other teams.
