I think the whole point the OP was trying to make has gone way over your head. He wasn't denying Jose's record as a manager or even questioning it.
--------------------------------------------------------------
It didn't. Just seems a pathetic dig at a manager who is going to win two trophies this season most likely.#
So, we won't see any nonsense from you with regards to LVG then, bearing that in mind?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Going out on away goals to Billionaires PSG compared to some of the stuff we're going through? You really want to go there?
Jose put out a very strong team. It wasn't a negative team. These things can happen.
Tbf 0-0 they would've gone through.
Or had they held on for 5 more minutes they would've gone through.
Don't think you can really blame him. I mean 1-1 away from home in the first leg is probably the most confusing result you could get. Do you stick or twist. I'm sure half the managers out there would stick and the other half twist
You know what you're going to get with Mourinho....mind-games, parking the bus, anti-football, etc....but he will win you trophies.
Last night though was the first time I've seen Jose tactically clueless.
I just don't think we're in a position to criticize the man who is widely accepted as the best manager in the world personally.
Will he get it right every single time? No he won't.
But this "attack" on him seems rather pointless considering he's already got a trophy in the bank this season and most likely will add the main one that everyone wants in a few months too.
I think Jose is a brilliant manager, he won't always play pretty football but he does what he needs to win but last night he messed up, simple as that. It happens, I'm sure he would be the first to admit it too.
No need to go overboard and slag the guy off, he's gonna win he PL in a couple months.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not just a one-off, it's a problem he has.
When Nani was sent off against Real, Jose immediately made a positive substitution (because Real were trailing), after Ronaldo tapped home the second goal do you remember what happened?
10 man United attacked Real and created enough reasonably clear chances to have actually scored the 2 goals required and that's also because Mourinho wasn't sure whether to keep attacking United or defend out the advantage, his team were confused.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Against 10 men?
You know what you're going to get with Mourinho....mind-games, parking the bus, anti-football, etc....but he will win you trophies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They're really terrible those managers who win trophies. The worst kind.
They've also scored 57 goals in the league. Only two behind highest scorers, Man City.
So they can score goals. They're just more pragmatic against better teams and usually it works. Last night it didn't but it happens.
Funnily enough I think the sending off of ibrahimovic helped PsG last night as as good a player as he is, he does make the team all about him. Without him there the other players could play as a team and trust in themselves rather than looking to the talisman.
Diego Costa: 17 PL goals, 0 CL goals
Surely that's an indication of how poor the quality in PL is compared to CL or how defensive and cautious Jose is in Europe compared to PL
The United game was an example of Jose's talent though. He reacted instantly to the Nani red card and it worked, Ferguson froze and suffered. Once he got the important goal he was able to step back and they went through.
You're being incredibly harsh on Jose, far more times than not he has proved his ability as a great manager.
"Mourinho mark one? Very flattering for Van Gaal that. Jose is easily the better of the two. By some distance too"
You're kidding aren't you? Are you just judging lvg on this year? If you want that style of play and results are what matters, then it just seems odd to me that you are pining after the apprentice when you already have the master. Their approach to football is incredibly similar, as it would be considering lvg was Mourinhos mentor.
They are cut from the same cloth.
Aguero i believe has 6 goals in 6 European appearances this season so Costa's European record is probably a Chelsea/Mourinho thing.
PSG are being hard done to on this thread. They were incredible last night. To the very last man. Give them some credit. And they're a quality team too to be fair.
Matuidi, pastore, Verratti, Ibra, Cavani, Lavezzi etc
They're not too shabby are they?
It's being made out that Chelsea were dumped out by Rubin Kazan. They went on with two draws against a team that could go on to win it.
Shameful
You're kidding aren't you? Are you just judging lvg on this year?

Mainly....however Bayern couldn't wait for him to leave in the end there either. He alienated everyone.
You should read some of the comments about him from some of their legends and current players. Scathing doesn't quite cut it.
He's a step up on Moyes but ultimately he's still not been good enough for MUFC. He's got 10 games to save himself.
The United game was an example of Jose's talent though. He reacted instantly to the Nani red card and it worked, Ferguson froze and suffered. Once he got the important goal he was able to step back and they went through.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
To be honest I would have been shocked if Mourinho hadn't made an instant change, the game was going away from Real, they clearly needed more going forward.
If my memory serves me correctly, United immediately went 4-4-1 which for me is a sensible adjustment, the real problem was that the players lost cooncentration which was surprising.
Real's approach after they got in front was terrible and on another night they could have been back in trouble.
"Mainly....however Bayern couldn't wait for him to leave in the end there either. He alienated everyone. "
Like Mourinho at Madrid...?
They are incredibly similar and have been throught their career. Both pragmatists and brilliant coaches who tend to suit big teams for three year cycles as their style of management is mentally and physically very challenging on their players. It gets results but the bubble bursts.

There is no doubt that PSG were outstanding, i was desperate for them to go through given their performance.
However they played for about 90 mins with 10 men at the home of the best team in England and with all due respect, PSG are not the best side in Europe and will not win the Champions League.
They definitely are similar but the thing is LVG has had some big fails in his career, Jose has won at every club although some would consider his time at Real a failure.
What we are seeing with LVG this season is not what I would expect from Jose. We are seeing mistakes and odd decisions on a weekly basis, something I don't think you would see from Jose.
Comparisons can be made but not necessarily the LVG we are seeing this season.
Melton
Van Gaal has us in 4th and we could easily finish 5-7th with the games we have left.
Thanks to Chelsea winning the ropey league......7th could still secure Europa football depending on what happens in FA cup.
The fact I'm more concerned about finishing 7th than 2nd shows you he's not a brilliant coach. At least not anymore he's not.

I will go there all day with you on the comment you just made.
"It's too simplistic to just blame the manager".
That comment fits very much to our current situation. Same as it did under Moyes.

Absolutely spot on, which is why I'm surprised at how badly LVG is doing this season (I expected the team to do very well and then burn out in a couple of seasons), the players can't seem to adjust at all to what LVG wants them to produce on the pitch.
Maybe it's too complicated.

But every time you lose a game, you could lay it at the door of the manager for getting something wrong, surely?
Like I said. He may have got it wrong last night with them being more defensive in approach but more often than not it's worked for him in the past, so why should he change?
You can't win them all.
