Eh? She's a total car nut, currently on a Channel 5 show and is totally hetero. She's also a supermodel rather than an actress.

I think the problem with Clarkson is that he used to play an obnoxious, outdated buffoon, but he played it for so long he started to believe it himself. It was no longer an act and he believed himself to be truly untouchable.

You see it a lot with people's internet personae. They'll just become a parody of themselves. For example somebody acting like they're a smug, arrogant know-it-all who eventually starts to believe their own nonsense... *ahem*.
