The lack of thought and understanding on this thread is astounding tbh, "waaaah Kane is in great form and Welbeck is crap at club level" Kane should be playing instead of Welbeck"

----------------------------------------------------------------------
If Welbeck was playing on the left then fair enough. If he's playing up front then I would have a problem with him playing instead of Kane, and there is no lack of thought or understanding in that POV.

Hope he isn't even on the bench

This international break has a Kane injury written all over it

Sounds good to me

We'll there is when you consider Welbecks England record and performances, if a player is playing well for his country (5 goals in his last 4 games) then why drop him?

2 internationals - he shouldn't start both. Makes sense if he starts the friendly as opposed to the competitive fixture.

If they play 2 up top, then I may change my opinion and argue that both him & Rooney should be starting this one. Rooney is the captain and undroppable, and Kane is most on form. But I think it is 4-3-3 isn't it? So.....
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is completely true, couldn't put it better.

Kane either partners Rooney in 4-4-2 or replaces him as the main striker in a 4-3-3. And the latter isn't going to happen cos Roy has to take the group seriously, and Kane is untested at international level. It would be so wrong to play him as the wide forward instead of welbeck - that's not his game, he'd have a stinker and the knives would be out.

Play him in the friendly and go from there

I suppose we could be playing the diamond again with Rooney and Welbeck up top and Sterling behind.

That can quite easily change to a 433 in game, so gives us some flexibility. If that's something Hodgson is looking to build on ahead of the Euros then it makes sense that the front three is Sterling, Rooney and Welbeck.

Yes Kane has been brilliant this season but the manager shouldn't just shelve his initial plans because of that. Kane needs more time in the international set up to prove things should be changed to accomodate him.

A couple of training sessions isn't enough.

In a very weak group though it should be said, and I think that helps explain why someone who we can all admit isn't a great striker, is currently doing well with England. Someone that is proving to be streets ahead at club level, should be given a chance as well, no?

I don't mind Welbeck on the left though, and that's where he's been starting mostly isn't it?

He scored both goals away at Switzerland ( who made the last 16 of the World Cup) and goals 2 and 3 to beat Slovenia, so he's scored important goals aswell

FFS Kane starting. WTF is up with England managers, complete failure at the world cup with Rooney and Welbeck, and what does he do he fecking picks them again, when a young lad scoring for fun is champing at the bit. I give up with England managers. Complete and utterly clueless.

Should have said Kane not starting*

Yeah pretty pathetic from Hodgson

Moan and moan about young english players getting a chance in the premier league and decides to play welbeck over the premier leagues top goalscorer.

Pathetic, hope it blows up in his face.

Switzerland were a better team under Hitzfeld. Since they lost him they've dropped down the rankings and are not really a threat anymore.

Maybe Kane could have scored hat-tricks in both those games? Kane as of now is the better, more in form striker. Give him a chance to see what he can do in a nothing game.

Hodgson doesn't have any balls I see.

posted on 27/3/15

Surely it's very ballsy not to play the player everyone seemingly wants in the side for what he believes is for the better of the team on the whole

Hodgson is playing 4-3-3 - as per usual. Kane on the bench is the right choice, considering the captain will not be dropped for a competitive game.

Boring hodgson. Boring england. Delphi and carrick at home to fec king Lithuania? Glad I'm not paying to sit in that corporate soul sucker .

I'm watching Fargo on Netflix.

Let me know if he EVER decides to attack.

Hodgson. Yawn

Awful England side, and Hodgson needs a serious look at himself. Picking his favourites instead of form players.

England are playing Lithuania FFS, not fecking Germany. Kane should be starting, the best English striker in the country sitting on the bench against Lithuania. No wonder England are so pathetic when it matters. I man WTF does Danny Fecking Welbeck get in before Kane?

posted on 27/3/15

Because Welbeck performs for England and can play on the left of a front 3

posted on 27/3/15

If Harry doesnt get on the pitch tonight he could go and join the Ireland squad, where he would walk in to the team.

Big occasion for Harry indeed.

Those half-time oranges won't cut themselves.

All the best with that, Harry.

Whereas Kane just scores goals for fun.

He scores goals for Spurs.

Can't be that much fun.
