I still remember your UEFA triumph in '84 - penalty shootout.

I sometimes wonder if the modern managers are so out of touch with old time supporters like myself, who want the team to be in contention for cups, and I personally am not obsessed with finishing top four. If Spurs make top four then fine, but really I couldn't care less either way. Much sooner go all out for a cup.
Agree Sandy
Putting our rivalries aside, Spurs were synonymous with winning cups in the 80s. (I know the 60s Spurs side was double winning team).
Of course by winning cups, we get into Europe. If we win the Europa League we get into the Champions League.
It's getting much harder to get into those top 4 slots. FFP will manage to keep those rich 3 clubs in place. Cups will be all we can go for in the forseeable future.
I'd like liverpool to be as a minimum in the europa league.
I think it's a convenient excuse to say it hampers the premier league season, it requires some management for sure, but chelsea with Rafa managed to win it and perform well in the league.
I really don't know where I stand on this considering a large portion of our fans think the same thing and previous managers have also stated this including Arry on a couple of occasions and for those who haven't they have let the team selecting do the talking by selecting poor Squads. In fact Poch has treated with more respect then any manager in recent history by selecting a competitive squad

In his defence I'm not sure he is 'more or less' saying that is he?
Also I don't think Europe does particularly hamper on it's own but coupled with domestic cups runs, in our case two semi finals, it can be an issue.

We do play more games in a shorter period here though sizz.
Pooch should have kept his translator ,ever since he started talking English his spoken no sense what so ever.
I like us being in Europe but not at the cost of us not turning up to crucial games.
If we hadn't lost to the dross that are Newcastle , Stoke , and so fourth we could still have made top 4.
Sorry.....but that's a weak mentality for me......!!!!
It's the truth as far as I can see; it does hamper us. I'm glad he's being honest about that. For where we are at the moment, which is a decent, not brilliant team, spending very little money to strengthen, Europa will always be a drain on us if we take it seriously.
I want to see what can be achieved without it for a change.

Taken from the BBC website, usually pretty reliable.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino says the club need a "big summer" if they are to challenge for Champions League qualification next season.
Their 2-2 draw with Southampton on Saturday further harms their chances of a top-four finish.
Pochettino says there will need to be investment if they are to challenge the Premier League's top sides.
"We need to prepare for a big summer, build a strong team and fight for the top four," Pochettino told BBC Sport.
"Our dream for our supporters and this club is that they deserve to fight for the top four and be in the Champions League."
Last week Pochettino said being in the Europa League had hindered his side's domestic campaign.
And while he concedes that another season in the competition would be far from ideal, the club will still take the Europa League seriously if they are in it.
"After my experiences of last year it's tough to play in the Europa League," he said. "I prefer to play in the Champions League but if you reach the Europa League it's good for the club.
"If we reach the Europa League next season, we must try and do better and fight for the top four and to try and win the Europa League, but it is not my dream."
Read into it what you like but if Poch is saying it is not his dream to be in the Europa, then he is basically saying he does not give a feeeeck.
Not what I want to hear.
I have this old fashioned crazy attitude that I like to watch Spurs play as often as possible. The group stage should be used as a platform for fringe and youth players and then we see where we're at when the knock out stage starts. I find the excuses that the competition causes poor League results pathetic.
find it funny that a lot of spurs fans are getting offended by this comment yet earler in the season were kicking up a right stink for Poch playing a strong team in the group stage!

All I see by them comments is his dream is to be in the champions league like most of the fans.
Sorry sandy but where has he said he doesn't want to be in Europa ? All I can see is him saying he would rather be in champs than Europa and said Europa is good for the club

This.
Sandy is just looking for something to moan at, so has made something up
Our fans honestly
so just to confirm we should be proud to enter the Europa league but we are not allowed to take it seriously as it will burn out our players?
By not fielding a strong team we are disrespecting the cup and may as well give up our place to someone who will give it a good shot like say Southampton or Swansea
