Stupid law.
The Swiss model does disprove to some extent the theory that it's gun ownership at the heart of the problem. They've all got proper military weaponry at home.
In theory that suggests it's really just a training / education issue.
But that's a tiny, homogenous, very rich nation. No way the US could do that without mandatory military service and I doubt that's a possibility.

I own two handguns and keep them stored here at my house and will have no problem shooting someone if someone was trying to break into my house. It's a wonderful thing because calling the police may take 5 minutes for someone to arrive which is enough time for them to murder me. So having the firearm available allows me to protect myself and my family. That's the point of the second amendment.
And yes, Oklahoma is a safe state...I bet if you compare the crime rate to that of other areas, like Chicago, Illinois...you will find that gun crime is worse there AND THEY HAVE COMPREHENSIVE GUN CONTROL.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course but Chicago has a much higher population than the whole of your state.
The point stands and I'm not sure why you aren't getting it. Here we have gun controls and bans etc. and we have less murders than the whole of your state per year, but we have 20 times the size of population. It isn't a stretch to say that you have more gun related murders simply because more people have guns....

My issue isn't with you wanting to shoot an intruder; i'd probably do the same in that situation if I was scared for my family. My issue is the notion that guns make the place safer. They don't.

If you read the comments further up I have also stated that there is definitely a cultural and social element to gun crime in the US. There are other countries where the element of gun crime simply isn't an issue (Switzerland may be a bad example because of the compulsory military service which I didn't consider).

And yes I get it...you live in a country where invasion of your "rights" is a normal thing.
==============
WTF are you talking about. You police just broke a guys neck!
The US is dangerous because there are millions of guns.
What do you think would happen if no-one was allowed guns there?
Other than the fact profits would drop dramatically of course.

Guns don't kill people, police do.
People in the US must be uber paranoid.
All stats show that crime is falling and yet people think there is going to be a home invasion murder?
Jesus.

And yes I get it...you live in a country where invasion of your "rights" is a normal thing. The government and police can do whatever the heck they want with you. You only cite a few sources and you get the assumption that all areas of the U.S. are dangerous, which is not true.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ah yes, and the reason the US government doesn't infringe on your rights (LOL), is because you all have the right to bear arms to stop a tyrannical government. Go America!

Robbing, the entire country is basically founded on the principle of not trusting the government and protecting your individual freedoms by any means necessary.
You can't just undo that sort of mentality. It's baked in from birth.

An example of how even police in the UK can abuse their power. Do I agree with what the officers did in the Baltimore case? No. So, yes, it can happen anywhere.
