Praise the lord that Wenger was left with no choice but to play Franny C.
Thank God Coquelin emerged; imagine Flamini providing cover
It has been a strange career for Francis. Happy for him.
Seems like a nice guy and thank fack Wenger got lucky with the DM injury crisis and called him back.
With what his career was heading towards, he needed this luck of Arteta getting injured and having no one else to replace him. He took his chance extremely well. Wenger will probably get praised but he got lucky here.
the whole AW got luck is sour grapes!
Coq made 37 appearances for Arsenal in the 11-12 and 12-13 and he went on loan last season and played 24 games.
very few people were suggesting that he is anything special and that he should be kept long term.
AW singed the guy, game him a new contract in January 2012 and played him in the first team.
I'm not saying there is no luck involved but people should get their heads out the sand and admit that in player development involves a lot of luck. clubs will sign tens of plays who show promise, some will become football stars and many will not even make it as professional footballers and luck is involved
To a very large extent you have to make your own luck. If Wenger hadn't signed the guy in the first place, or had he sold him a few years ago, he wouldn't have been in the position now to benefit from "getting lucky"
Of course it is luck. Why would it be sour grapes?
Charlton had just extended Coqs loan, and there was no new contract offer from us. Wenger has already stated Coquelin was going to leave on a free.
"If he didn't play at Christmas at all, and there's only six months contract to go, I (would have) let him go somewhere else."
almost every young talent needs a little bit of luck to get their chance. bringing up luck to take any credit away from AW for developing Coq but not bellerin who's wouldnt have played as many game if it was not for Debuty's injuries and chambers drop in form?
you make your own luck, Coq was on our books not by luck.
also its not like AW only gave him a chance when he had to. he had played 40 games for Arsenal before he was re-called back from Charlton.
So it was a masterstroke by Wenger? Interesting!
I think Coquelin was on track for Arsenal well up until his Freiburg loan. We all thought that was it for him. Until then I think his quality was well known. He was always rated higher than Frimpong, for example.
Harry kane was the luck of the manager too. And Bale.
For any player who took his chance when the first choice got injured, the manager who bought and nurtured the player should not take any credit

Don't think anyone is saying that, but neither is it pure luck. It's not black or white
Bale definitely was. Redknapp had all but sold him before he found form.
Kane not so. He got his chance by performing in Europa and League Cup games. Neither first choice was injured when he got a game.

Exactly
Wengers hand was forced. Just a week or so earlier he allowed Charlton to extend Coquelins loan. He had no intention of extending Coquelins deal at Arsenal, and was more than happy to let Coquelin leave on a free.
It is pretty much black and white, and straight from Wengers mouth.
Why we moan about how we are treated by the media baffles me when we are so quick to put our own attacks in. Just like the "years without a trophy" that was exclusive only to arsenal we now have "player breaking into the first team was luck"
I wonder how many footballers in the premier league would be where they were without this so called luck throughout their football career starting as a school boy.
As a manager you buy players for their potential. How they achieve it is kind of a moot point when they would not even been at the club in the first place if not for the faith shown my management
So Wenger rated him but was playing Flamini ahead of this season, considering how well we're playing at the moment with a traditional holding player I think this in particular shows Wengers stubbornness as this has been a weakness for years now. And this is only because of injuries to Arteta and Flamini which turned out to be extremely lucky for us.
So it was a masterstroke by Wenger? Interesting!

master-stroke by Wenger youth recruitment and development policy. AW is constantly being criticised for buying young talents and giving them a chance in the first team and giving them long term contracts and there many examples when it didnt go well but with Coq apparently it was entirely down to luck!
It is pretty much black and white, and straight from Wengers mouth.

AW also said that part of the issue with Coq is convincing him to play in his best position which is ball winning midfielder rather than the box to box role after he had won some youth world cup with France playing the in box to box role.
many people said it was AW coming up with excuses but Coq confirmed it in guardian interview.
