Redinhead.

No. I'm saying the idea that ANY club would let the contract of one of their top assets dwindle, is absurd.

Like Arsenal with RVP
us with Mcmanaman
Chelsea with Cech
Newcastle with Owen

Under the Webster rule, Sterling can buy out the remainder of his contract at Xmas and leave in the January window. Because Liverpool currently pay him peanuts, it will cost him peanuts to do this. Pretty funny.

I see it from Sterling's point of view but also from Liverpool's.

How often do we hear that a contract isn't worth the paper it's written on and read the debates over over whether the club or player holds holds the cards ?

Football is an odd one.

What other industry are employees 'bought' by one company from another ?

Shouldn't a footballer be allowed to simply resign ?

Some want to abolish 'transfer fees' but how else would the money filter down through the lower leagues.

It's a tough one and the Sterling case is hardly unique.

Redinthehead.

In all those cases it was the player deciding to run down his contract. Sterling case is very different.

How is it different?

The club allowed it to happen.

No club can force a player to sign a contract. If they know he wants to leave they can try and force his hand in the hope of getting some money for him before his contract expires (eg LFC trying to sell McManaman to Barca), or they can sit back, let the contract expire, and get nothing no money for them when they leave.
The point is, the player holds all the cards.

So he's staring against Stoke then...

That would be a terrible idea. There's going to be riots on the streets of Liverpool if Sterling plays in the next match, especially if he puts as little effort in as he has been recently. Be hard for that lot to put their trust back in Brentan if he keeps rewarding more play time to a player who is showing no desire at all to be there, just because he's a good player.

Why is Brendan wearing a skin tight UnderArmour shirt?

Clubs still allowed them to run down their contract rather than sell them.

Same thing

Is sterling that good that liverpool cant afford to let him leave? I doubt it

not a chance they're gonna let him run down his contract and leave for free

Sterling's performances haven't been short of effort at all. Most players play at their best when they're happy. Clearly Sterling isn't.

You can't sell a player who refuses to leave. That's what Bosman was all about.

You are aware that Raheem Sterling isn't actually the property of LFC right?

What is paid as a transfer fee, is compesation for the remainder of the contract being bought out essentially.

A club buys the services of a player. Not the actual player themselves.

Good point that!

If he wants to degrade as a footballer and run down his contract on 35k a week, then that's his choice!

Cos by there Im confident other youngsters around him would've at very least caught up with him/overtaken him in terms of current ability

I think by taking a metaphorical crap on the Anfield crest he's chosen to walk alone, Pride...
