Roughly around 1600, the same as the USA

Still a hell of a lot though!

"it's more the rampant homophobia, racism and violence that plights their football that make it a bit
iffy to host a world cup"

Gay culture is thriving perfectly fine in Russia. There are tons of conspicuous gay clubs and bars everywhere. There's no "rampant homophobia". It's not Afghanistan. It's just your typical Western media sensationalism. Racism and violence? You mean like was said about Ukraine and Poland in the last Euros. Or how everyone was gonna get stabbed in South Africa? Or how everyone would get mugged in Brazil? When will you Brits in particular learn to be less sensationalist?

Yeah but legal though Sheriff? I thought the Russian government has openly opposed homosexuality? Might be wrong though as I've only got this from the media so might be a load of cobblers

I'm on the wum because I don't spout stupid Daily Mail propaganda? Dênd your point that Russia are sponsors of terrorism. Several Iraqi civilians died in the moronic invasion. Does that make the UK sponsors of terrorism?

No.

"Yeah but legal though Sheriff? I thought the Russian government has openly opposed homosexuality?"

They are opposed. They call it an anti-gay propaganda law. It claims to criminalize exposure of homosexuality to minors. But for the most part, gay people live very openly and freely in Russia. It doesn't remotely in the slightest pose any kind of threat to visitors.

Russia is very backward compared to West Europe countries socially. There's little doubt about that

Racially motivated attacks

Although most visitors experience no difficulties, racially motivated attacks do occur in Russia. If you are of Asian or Afro-Caribbean descent you should take extra care. Attacks tend to increase around 20 April, the anniversary of Adolf Hitler’s birthday.

No."

And yet, Russia are sponsors of terrorism because of a royal fack up by seperatists? How does that work? Oh...I get it. British soldiers are actual civilian murdering terrorists while Russians are just sponsors. I get it now.

Whether there was bribery involved in the Qatar WC bid or not, it should be up for re-voting. The bid that they tendered has been shown to be something that they can't deliver within the set criteria that all the bidding countries had to adhere to.

As for Russia, I thought they 'lost/destroyed' lots of material that was requested by the guy doing the internal investigation for FIFA? It could be that they won the right to host the 2018 WC through means other than being the best option to host it. But it looks at this moment that it won't be proven. Hard to see it not host the next WC.

Any other things (politics, etc...)that could see it lose its right to host it I think will be swept under the carpet.

Who ever is talking about a war let alone a nuclear one is f#king mor0n. If you haven't been in an actual blood , guts and severed head kind of situations dont talk about war. Remember the last time everyone thought the Germans won't get anywhere ? One mistake by Mr. Mustache or else your names would have a German endings to it. War is not fought with technology and whoever thinks that technology wins you wars you still don't know the f#ck you're talking about. Leave football to be the beautiful game and don't bring politics in to it. Leave the war to the people that would benefit from it me and you .... Let's just enjoy our game

When there was talk of Scotland breaking away from the UK did we arm the 'No' voters and encourage them to kill civilians and shoot down jets?

No, we let them have a referendum.

Sheriff, you really don't know what you're talking about. You seem to think that only people from countries with no dodgy pasts at all can raise a few legitimate concerns about Russia which has some pretty shady problems right now which anyone with half a brain can see might cause issues for people at the world cup

So, if the UK or US won the World Cup hosting rights, you'd be raising issues about their military activities in other sovereign countries? Who do you think you're kidding?

Is this a case of rehashing a discredited, lame argument again and again as if you win the argument by tireless repetition rather than a bit of meaty substance?

Well, being that this is all happening on the doorstep of Russia and with Russian special forces in eastern Ukraine right now which is violating the Minsk agreement the potential for even more military action spread out across the Balkans makes for dangerous territory.

Even without the dangers from Russian military intervention on a country very close to where the world cup will be taking place the very real problems with homophobia and racism there are things which really don't look like changing in the next 3 years.

So do you think this particular big bad wolf should host a world cup?
