I suggest watching Shogun instead.
Shogun was cool. But it’s not the pinnacle of samurai filmmaking

I agree but in terms of show on TV and recent content, it's some of the best.

You're internet went down. That's the only acceptable answer here.
If you like that sort of thing (not really my bad anyway, aside from any particular issues with Shogun), check out some of Akira Kurosawa's samurai films:
-Rashomon (kind of)
-Seven Samurai
-Throne of Blood
-Yojimbo
-Sanjuro
-Ran
I really like Kurosawa, but not really his samurai stuff personally.
Also by another director:
-Kuroneko / a.k.a Black Cat
a samurai ghost film
How much of Shogun did you watch?
Subtitles alert…..
Blood Coast on Netflix. French police drama, very gritty and very good.
The French do violent police shows well, particularly police units on the edge of the law. Braquo was another really good watch.

You watched 3 minutes of the show and decided you didn't like it? The shows success is built on its ability to tell a story which consists of several character arcs that are a journey in itself. The writing is nothing short of tremendous and it weaves everything together in a moment of pure beauty. All of this cannot be experienced in the first 3 minutes. In fact, the first 3 minutes barely begin to lay the foundations. To give a show like this 3 minutes is ridiculous and frankly shameful.
Candidly, I'd have more respect for your opinion if you didn't like the show, having watched the first episode.
Aaaannnnd in comes Guv with the first jab!!
Bill, your recent statements have cast a shadow on all your previous lists. I think the efficacy of your lists have to now be brought into question.
