Just finished season 5 of Game of Thrones. What a load of old codswallop.

Such a significant drop in standard from previous seasons. Didn't like season 4 much and the general standard and storyline only seems to have dropped further in season 5.

If I do watch Season 6 it will only be to find out what happens after happens after having already spent 50 hours of my life watching it all so far.

Very tempted to not bother though and just cut all ties with it now.

Superb im not there in the series but im exactly the same with the books. First 3 were epic, 4 was ok, and 5 was just a mess - and honestly if a certain character doesnt return in 6 im out as, as like you said so much time invested in characters etc for them to be suddenly be removed seems a complete waste of time and in some sense dont bother as the whole arc then just becomes redundant, like why tell the persons story over 5 books and then just end it for the story itself to have little or no impact on rest of the world except this 1 character.................very frustrating for me and the time i invested in the books. I have no problem with a shock factor, but its been done so often its no longer a shock..........i would be more shocked if the a person doesnt die, though i think this is exactly what is being set up

I liked them a lot as i remember, just remember being so confused in the 1st book as you are literally dropped in the middle of a story

At this point think it would be pointless reading the final book. So much you have probably forgotten.

As for the first book agreed. I was so lost for maybe 1/2 the book. In hindsight though I dont think it couldve been done any other way. The final 1/4 was amazing and totally hooked me.

Was going to ask what you prefer out of Malazan or GoT. But seeing as you probably cant remember I'll let that go.

Would like to know your favourite fantasy series though

posted on 13/7/15

Depends what you fancy, cant put the book down award goes to most Gemmel series, my favourite being the rigante series, though the last couple of books werent as good as the first. Best and most complete world I would go with Feist. GoT Vs Malazan, like i said 1st 3 books in GoT were so so so good but then he totally lost the plot and after was a complete mess - Malazan overall is better. Wheel of time series is also up there. Also for a few hours of enjoyable reading most black library stuff and sword coast stuff is good - check out Drizz't saga, and the Gotrek and Felix hunter series are good fun.

Ah and i forgot the Sword of Truth series as well by Terry Goodkin

I guess overall I prefer high fantasy which is likely why GoT doesnt sit well with me. Overall I am new-ish to the genre in that I spread out my time in other genres as well so havent hit those classics that I probably should have.

If you like high fantasy go and grab Feist now if you havent already done so! For the complete experience i would advise reading Magician Apprentice, then the empire series then Magician Master, then all the other feist books. This is pretty much the machete version of feist akin to machete starwars

Talking about that Brandon Sanderson is prob the best up and coming fantasy writer, so his stuff is pretty good including the decent "superhero" series he is writing
