Needs to be epic Simon. Is it EPIC ?!?!
Mistborn i really liked, and honestly the best book i have read in a while is Steelheart, wasnt expecting to enjoy it so much based on its premise, but if you wanna break one of those big series up i can certainly advise it.
Thanks for reminding me, just seen he has released the second book in the series!
Will get back to you when I finish the Malazan books. Only a couple to go

4za mate i will be honest - Lord of the rings isnt all that, yes it prob started the genre but vs more modern stuff there are imo much better stories out there and yeh the first 10 chapters in Lotr is horrible.

/Erickson who is an anthropologist and and archeologist. Knows how to create realist cultures imo. Its not just empty fantasy lands as he understands how to built the land and then how people would adapt to lands conditions. Conditioning them if you will.
Sigh i really hate touch screens now. They arent made for my thumbs.
Also Lord of the Rings has not aged well at all. Fantasy has grown so much since then. For one i think most people have moved past elves/dwarves/orcs.

Then i really suggest you look at the warcraft series of books, or more specific a set of books just called "Orcs" very very good read. Also any of the stuff based off of the sword coast is good also. I would also advise not to lob all elves/orcs/dwarves etc into the same boat as many are portrayed differently depending on the writer

BORING
Detective sheet bores me.
BTW Patrick Wilson is in the new Fargo season. He's great. Love that show.
