I would be surprised to see him in the Premiership because of his lack of composure on the ball but I think he is a very good defender in terms of the basics of the job, which is why his fellow professionals rated him so highly last season. I think he carried the can for mistakes of those around him, the hilarious jibes about his sliding attempt to block the Reading goal a typical example. Whose mistakes led to that goal? Not Keogh's but it's convenient to lay it at his door.
Were he to partner Shackell I think we might see an effective pairing at this level but Keogh isn't going to take being demoted as captain and he might be behind Pearce in the pecking order anyway. Probably best all round if he finds a new club and we get a reasonable return - anything in excess of what we paid I would have thought OK. I would thank him and wish him well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry Vidal but he has been a weak link in our defence...I'll grant you he may have heart, but he can neither read the game very well, organise those around him or present himself as a leader of men.
As for being voted onto the team of the year, we've just had a national election and look what we ended up with. Just over a third of those who placed the X got what they want, nearly 70% didn't.
I would tell him sorry but your not good enough oh and then wish him well.
Is he not worthy of one season without the burden of the Captaincy though.
Yea sure if he threw a strop at the suggestion of it, sure time to go, but he genuinely loves the club and we might still see the best of him with two captains in the back line with him, Shackell being the obvious one.

Not a lot to talk about really! We've got a new shirt that is red and gold and not red and white. We told the tax man to go fύck himself and he went and got all mardy.
I thought it was alright
Omar.
But garabaldi & gold, for the purist, doubt it.
"..weak link in our defence"
By a very long distance our best defender last season. His weaknesses are more obvious than his strengths and the latter perhaps therefore escape the notice of the unsophisticated fan. When your opinion coincides with that of 666, Sheepthrills, then surely the time has come to question yourself.
With Keogh being far and away our best defender last season i find it amazing that people want to drive him here there and everywhere. If we dont get Shackell then Keogh will still be the best defender at our club. Pearce is behind Keogh at International level so dont expect him to be the 2nd coming of Igor Stimac. Shotton,Warnock,Albentosa are all ahead of Keogh to be picked and drove somewhere...by a distance too. Keogh & Shackell must be the aim to start the season...in mine & Vidals opinion
I'm just here to read the comments
Totally agree with Bucko here, very underrated at Derby, even when he got switch to right back he was still by far the best defender. The main problem was, he had to many different partners. Maybe not the best leader/captain but I'd pair him with shacks to take some pressure off him, twin c/h twin captains.
Interesting reading Harry Redknapp's article about the u21, and I agree with him. But he also mentioned how he would love to work with a young manager giving him his wealth of experience. Now that would really be interesting if he came to us....
Hay Rednapp, you've got to be joking!!! We want to move forwards not backwards.
Yep, that'd be the fast-track to success !
At least we'd sign Krancjar, Defoe, Kanu....
Our best defender last season.....well there wasn't much competition for that title was there......
Simply not good enough for Derby..............don't make me put it in capitals

So Backo you're telling me he's worth more than £4mil.?
Can you imagine £4mil £2 million profit plus shackell is great business don't you think

Where did I say he was worth that? He is our best central defender. He was our best defender last season. Keogh is ahead of Pearce in the Irish squad. Lets start driving other defenders all over the country before we pick Keogh up

If our defence was that poor how was we 5pts clear at the top with 2 months of the season to go?

Backo,
That argument is a bit like saying we were winning a game 4-0 with 30 minutes to play.................. (only in our case we let 7 in without reply before the final whistle).
Owd Backo with his "Keogh's our best defender" nonsense, ranking right up there with his "We Got This" pearl of 'wisdom'.
It's like Hendrickgate all over again, with Backo fervently backing his original opinion despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. I don't mind these people who spend most of the season on holiday with Mickey and Minnie having their 606 accounts, I really don't, it just grates with me when they can't se past the Ram on the shirt and actually assess the competencies of the player fairly. Yes, you love Derby County, well done, big pat on the back, but you're killing it with kindness when you just blindly accept below-par players just because they're wearing the famous black and white.
If Admin1 has any love for Derby County, or football in general, then I'd like to see Backo's account restricted to posting about cycling, cricket and perhaps modern pentathlon.

Scouse...Nowhere near the same comparison. My scenario is over 7 months...and the previous season.
I would like 666 to name a better central defender than Keogh at our club. Alex Pearce? How many times you see him play? Jake Buxton? As much as fault at Wembley as Keogh but given less stick. Shotton? I don't need to explain anything with him. Albentosa? Although I would like to see what a full pre season can do with him I have bad feelings about him. So to sum up...we have sat down discussed it...and decided I was right..
