How is Bale received in Madrid? Not very well at allnit appears. Perhaps he should try harder

"(Lamela) showed last season that he's maturing into a fine player" - you got to be joking ! He's an embarrassment.

wonder how much spanish bale speaks? apparently virtually none.

did beckham speak any?

i am pretty sure that those are two of the most driven players to have come out the premier league in the modern era.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Beckham just about mastered English. I read a story last year that Van Gaal had ordered Valencia to take English lessons because he still hasn't mastered it after 7 years in the country!

Beckham or Valencia?!

Apparently Redknapp's English has come on leaps and bounds since he confessed he "writes like a 2 year old" so maybe Maf can take lessons from him.

how embarrassing for a grown man to confess to writing like a two year old in order to get off of a tax fraud charge.

to be honest, if you watch a clip of paulinhos highlights you would think he was good.

class goal v hull, back heel goal v cardiff. and skills galore v stoke.

makes him look world class.

thing about lamela is that he showed signs of steady improvement

there is definitely a player in there

needs to bulk up, get him in the gym.

I'm not sure if you know this hrh, but you don't have to be good at Spanish, English or any other language to play football.

Aguero barely speaks a lick of English, but he is one of the best players in the league.

I suspect players can speak the language of the nation they play football in more than they let on at times, they just don't all feel comfortable doing so in front of a camera or in an interview.

I suspect similar Ledley's, one mistake and it goes viral. Much easier to keep hush.

Only have to take a look at Moyes in Spain..... classic!

Can't compare Lamela and Shaqiri they have different styles.

Shaqiri is not an attacking mid, someone who can rotate with Eriksen - that's Lamela. Shaqiri is a little tenacious pitbull, he'd be a better option on the left than Townsend and could even consider playing him upfront some matches for added pace.

Chicken will be after you for suggesting he would replace Townsend

In chickens head Townsend is class

Aguero is world class, and hit the ground running. It's clearly not an issue for him as his talent sees him through.

Paulinho never learned any English apparently.

Soldado has struggled here from day one, and doesn't either.

Lamela had a bad injury officially in his first season, and was unusually sent back to Argentina to recuperate. Rumours being he was homesick and struggling to settle.

Now in all three instances - and all players we have broken our transfer record for - none of them speak the language, and to a man have struggled.

If I was struggling in a foreign league, the first thing I'd want to be able to do is communicate with my fellow players and coaching staff - all of whom should be speaking in English.

To not learn it is lazy and unprofessional in this instance

Dont rate Shaqiri.

Never really done it and IMO would block the progression of Pritchard.

We spent plenty on Lamela. He had his first full season last season, lets see if he kicks on this season.

posted on 6/7/15

Pritchard has played from the left for Brentford.

Shaqiri's main position is from the right.

How would he block his progression any more than Lamela would?

posted on 6/7/15

*in Poch's system that is. Shaqiri is predominantly left footed, so would naturally be played on the right as Townsend/Lamela are

So what? There will be hundreds of players who struggle with the language of the league they play in, but are very good. There will be hundreds who aren't.

There are hundreds of English players who have a good grasp of the English language and aren't very good, there are hundreds who are.

If you are good enough, it doesn't really matter what language you speak as communication on the pitch is pretty much universal.

Yet you are basing that they are unprofessional because they don't feel comfortable enough to communicate with one journalist. As if that undermines all the hours of hard work they may have put in behind the scenes.

To create this agenda is very poor, and borderline xenophobic.
