I don't think it was xenophobic, just a bit misguided when he puts himself in the frame, as in:-
"If I was struggling in a foreign league, the first thing I'd want to be able to do is communicate with my fellow players and coaching staff - all of whom should be speaking in English."
When it comes to players coming here from foreign parts they "should learn English" but if HRH was off to foreign parts the first thing he would want to do is to communicate, so it is for everyone else to learn English!!!
He is treating the football dressing rooms of the world like international air travel and control, which is all done in English.
So you would potentially miss out on a relatively cheap deal for Shaqiri because he may hinder the progress of Pritchard?
That's a little bit silly. The points made earlier were that Shaqiri > Townsend. Would you agree then that Townsend has been blocking Pritchard's development?
If he was bought and Pritchard competed for the position and didn't start then he does deserve to. There is no right of passage, Mason had benched a few of our signings.. Pritchard could do the same if he had the ability.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves with the talent in our academy. Only a handful will manage to keep their starting place should Spurs ever progress to the next level.
Players like Mason may well see themselves back on the bench.

Agree with this completely.
Obviously there are homegrown quotas etc that we need to fulfil, all the 'we can't stifle Player X's development' talk is rubbish as far as I'm concerned. Whilst it would be good if players do come through the academy, we don't gain additional points in the league or a bye into the latter rounds of the cups for doing so.
If a player is good enough he'll make it, if he's not then so be it. His career doesn't end because he wasn't a first-team regular.
What if Pritchard or someone else did come through, made it big and had all the big boys sniffing around? Do you honestly expect them to stay because we gave them a chance when they were 20/21?
I don't care if we have 8 homegrown players or 25 of them - all I want is success for Spurs.

Clearly if I was going to another country I'd be speaking the native tongue, not expecting everyone else to speak English. Let me rephrase it for the pedantic element:
"If I was struggling in a foreign league, the first thing I'd want to be able to do is communicate with my fellow players and coaching staff - all of whom should be speaking in English IF PLAYING IN ENGLAND"
You agreed with it - it's aimed at you and Edinspur.
Is it because of the assists per minute thing with Lamela and Townsend? Sulking?
im not sulking. anyone who watches spurs can clearly see that lamela is a far more dangerous player than townsend is....
You jumped straight on the assists and goals to knock Chicken - no context or mitigating circumstances - then was a bit shown up when it was shown Townsend actually is more productive.
Both have had their moments, but I wouldn't say either have been great. Not enough to say either us far more dangerous than the other. Lamela creates more chances, but the team scores less goals when he plays
I bet there are lots of left backs and centre backs who'd much rather see Lamela in the side, and equally kits who'd prefer to face Townsend
Chronic,

Anyone else getting a bit of de ja vu?
Not only did your own theory prove that Townsend was factually more effective in attack than Lamela, but in an attempt to prove you were not stubborn on these forums you even admitted (on another article) you were wrong - then on another / this article (as I predicted you would) you have changed your tune because you have some back up.
Townsend is our 3rd most productive player using minutes per goals and assist ratios (a method you agreed with until you realised this put Townsend in a higher bracket than Lamela). FACT!
As for the article subject. It is a bit late now but I would have swapped Shaqiri for Lamela. Stoke have a good player there….

That is the most confusing clarification I have ever seen!!
Why would you be playing in a foreign league IN ENGLAND? Are there any foreign leagues in England?
Being pedantic, perhaps I can help:-
"If I were struggling in a foreign league the first thing I would want to do is to communicate with my fellow players and coaching staff - all of whom should be speaking in the language of the country in which I was playing. And in order to be able to communicate I would expect to have the task of learning this language."
Hope that helps. Other translations are available. CV's on request!
lamela isn't struggling in a foreign league though is he?

It's all relative. If Pritchard came in next season and had a season like Lamela just had I wouldn't say he is struggling.
Lamela came here off the back of scoring a ridiculous amount of goals and being one of the hottest young players about and has scored twice in the league for us in 38 games over two seasons.
I know you have a little semi for him but to say he hasn't struggled here is ridiculous.

i can hand out as stinging criticism as the next spurs fan… however there is no doubt that towards the end of the season there was a noticeable improvement in his game, and if he continues the upward curve then we have a good player on our hands.
i would say out of all our players last year he probably performed about averagely in comparison to the rest…. and i reiterate, he plays for one of the best teams in the league.. so he is hardly struggling.
struggling gives the impression that his career is heading down the toilet.. which clearly isn't so.

Added to his dreadful first season.
So based on about 6wks of decent games he isn't struggling, the other 19 months are forgotten?
HRH….
struggling is present tense no? so currently (or at season end), he was putting in reasonably good displays.. certainly better than what we were seeing earlier in his career…..
if a student had struggled all year in school, but passed the exam with a good grade, is he still struggling? no.
not the best analogy, but the point i am making is that you need to look at where he is now if you are talking about him struggling now, not where he was 6 months ago…
hes not great, but he's improving… as oppose to say townsend, who is just exactly the same every single time.
Once we be had a consistent spell from him we can probably say he isn't struggling. We've had a month or two of above average performances which are nowhere near what he can do, on the tail of oerformances which range from average to woeful.
Bill is going to be all over that last post.
