It's not that simple....

Austin was their main threat, the only real one they had, so probably had extra attention during games. That may cause him to have less clear cut chances - he may have had to work harder to get shots away, or had more potshots from distance.

All I know is he scored a lot of goals

Agreed.

I'm not a fan of making late signings. I never have been and I never will.

Looking at the first XI last season, centre back and right back were huge problems all season. We fixed these signings up early doors.

We have signed three defenders, Alli has joined the squad and Pritchard looks as if he will too. That's five players already we didn't have last season.

The players we need are not urgent. I'm not saying we don't need them - two strikers for sure - but that they won't be going straight in to the side v United.

When Europa starts is the target for integration, not next weekend.

When will we learn

--------

When Levy leaves I suppose.

If I wasn't so used to this I'd be more annoyed and disappointed. Hope we can still get some other signings done and not have the lateness of it impact too much on the season.

the problem is that as we are in the market for similar players to clubs with a lot more financial power, sometimes you have to wait until the end to pick up the players you want...

it makes sense for the player to want to wait until the end to see if say a man u came in for them, before agreeing to join a spurs or someone else at our level.

same way there are players out there who will be waiting to see if we come in for them, before moving to a lower ranked club.

its how it works unless you are at the top of the food chain

We certainly need another capable striker, we can not expect Kane to play 50+ games this season, he will be burnt out by January.

Save Kane for the league and big cup games, somebody else can step in for the cup games against weak opposition.

There is also the chance of injuries, so really we need another forward of equal ability to Kane or better, we should have 2 top class players for each position, so as to not weaken the team when a player is injured or rested.

Maybe its just me but i have been quite impressed with Pochetinno.

Yes he has made mistakes, too rigid in the same formation all of the time, seeing as Poch was an international cb his training methods for our defence were seriously lacking.

However, on the positive side the fitness levels and lack of injuries were fantastic last season so the conditioning part of the training is working well.

Everyone highlights that if it wasnt for kane we would have finished mid table thats true to a point but Poch obviously knows how to get the best out of him and his rapid improvement must be partly down to the manager.

The thing i admire the most about Poch is his strong faith and belief in the youngsters at the club, we have arguably the youngest squad in the prem and we now have a real identity and a plan that works.

I would be very surprised if we sack Pochetinno and replace him with Klinnsman mid season. We have hired ex players as managers before and that hasnt worked. I honestly believe and hope Poch is here for the long term and we just cant keep on changing managers.

Youngest team in the PL last season, average age of starting XIs.

That's not really a positive though IMO. You need some experience and leadership to compliment the youth. In-game management from players is vitally important, as evidenced when United kept raiding down our right flank yet no player saw fit to take the situation on and try and fix it.

You can take any one game and analyse it like that.

Chelsea should have realised Danny Rose and Townsend were causing them major problems in the 5-3 for example.

At the end of the day, with a regimented coach like Poch (or AVB even), the players do as they are told. They have a role in the side and have to stick to it.

It's why when people moan about player A not doing what he used to, or Player B doing a particular thing too much, they, don't factor in that the players follow strict instructions from the coach.

It's removed from an approach such as Redknapp's when he was here - Rafa said he let players play, and gave them freedom - which is why we saw such good football at times, but also why it was shambolic in others.

Fergie was the master of both. Tactically disciplined, but not afraid to throw the kitchen sink at teams if needed

How you can't say Poch having faith in the youngsters isn't a positive is beyond me - especially as we have a steady stream of young talent knocking on the door. It makes us a magnet for top young talent too, so it's circular.

We need a bit more experience in central midfield for me, but on the whole I don't think we are that lacking:

Lloris - France captain
Fazio - Europa winning captain
Jan and Toby - in the Ajax team from young men.
Walker and Rose - our soon to be longest serving pros
Dembele - several years a PL regular
Eriksen - vastly experienced for a young man.

Leadership and experience are two different things.

John Terry was a leader when inexperienced.
