Allen has a nice beard though
Ah, now I agree but what is Lucas better at? Defensive midfield play.
Lucas isn't a better continuity player, neither score or assist, but Allen has a better touch and balance. He's also a better passer under pressure.
I'd keep him all day but Rodgers doesn't want an archetypal dm by the looks of things.
It would leave us light in midfield though I would have thought. Perhaps he fancies a youth player to step up or the telegraph reported another bid for Illaramendi.

He played today against TNS
I'd rather we keep Lucas than Allen, and let Teixera take Allen's spot.
Bringing a defensive minded midfielder in Can made a big difference against Stoke, it allowed Hendo and Milner to get forward and support the attack (like that chance Hendo had when he crossed the ball, neither were making those sort of runs before Can came on).
If Can is injured, Lucas can play that role and be competing with him for it. Allen (while technically sound) can't and I don't think he offers enough consistently in any role. Not strong or positionally aware enough (defensively) to play a DM, doesn't really control the tempo of games, and isn't creative enough to be a deep playmaker. He has good games, but not often enough and he's also injury prone and takes a while to get going after.
Hendo, Milner, Can, Lucas, Teixera, Rossiter for 2/3 spots would be good enough for me
Lucas plays more forward balls from dm positing then allen does in my opinion. That helps transfer the ball more quickly from defence to midfield/attack. Allen in my opinion does not do that as well. He plays safe far too much and he does play back or side alot which slows it down more.
No huge loss but he deserves better treatment, sometimes I swear BR has a real issue with anything that has a hint of Rafa. Ego ?

Allen is BR's special favourite though and it's clear that ability/form doesn't even come into the equation sometimes with BR. When BR has a grudge against you, you're gone. See Lucas and Agger.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't normally agree with you but I can't really argue against this point. There is an ego with BR I'm not sure I like it. Fair enough if he didn't feel Lucas wasn't right to be in the team, but he needs to handle things better.
Would be pleased if we got Illara to replace Lucas.

You're making a lot of assumptions here, with nothing to back them up. I've not seen anything substantive that suggests your examples are about BR's ego. I'm not saying it can't be the case, I don't know.
Maybe he wants players who are always available? Agger and Sakho are constantly injured, so he's gone for Skrtel and Lovren at the back. He's decided that he doesn't want to use a DM, which isn't particularly surprising when you have Hendo and Milner in the team. They're going to be in the team ahead of Lucas in the majority of games, Lucas has doesn't like this so maybe he does need to move on.
I'm just showing that there may be other explanations other than BR having a massive ego. I just guess some people are happier going with the most negative theory. Must liven up a dull existence I guess??
Lucas played as many games as Allen last year.
I don't know where fans get this ridiculous idea that Rodgers hates Lucas from. It's a complete myth.
We just don't play with a defensive midfielder very often so Lucas is often redundant. Allen is. It a defensive midfielder, so is more flexible. Lucas has been tried a bit further forward and gets a nosebleed when he crosses the half way line.
Allen is mediocre but is more suited to how Rodgers set up.
Lucas doesn't really fit.
You can dispute the set up, but you can't dispute the players chosen within that set up. There is simply no role for Lucas in the team this season unless Rodgers decides to pick a specialist DM for certain games.
Can is not a DM and never will be. He will be in the team as progressive playmaker if and when he gets picked/comes on.
Allen is just as bad in the final third of the pitch as lucas
Lucas is better defensively. I would have kept him for the big games and to bring on to preserve a lead. Not a massive loss because of the way we play but keeping Allen is a joke.
I think Lucas am has been jerked around and it's pretty clear we have have a very unhappy player at the club. What I've heard is that he had the chance to leave before and stayed when he was told he had a future at the club. So after being left out of the squad it's understandable given that he's loyal and been a big contributer to the team:
However there is no nice way to drop a player and back in the day when we had more success players were fretting about one poor performance being the end. The competition for places was intense. We need to get back to that and we are certainly heading in the right direction.
Even injuries can play a part and I think term makes a good point in BR wanting to have players he can depend on. Studge is the next injury prone player to be under the microscope when he eventually gets fit.

Well yes all this is without knowing the absolute fact but I think Rodgers isnt very good at dealing with players when they are no longer in his plans. There was an issue with Agger, Carragher and now Lucas.
There's some real soppy clowns on this board, jumping on everything to have a good cry.
There's one thing that people need to get into their tiny minds, as I see so many crying for us to buy a DM. We don't play with a DM! This is why when everybody is fit, Lucas doesn't play. It's not some kind of agenda against the player, just he doesn't fit.
A midfield of Lucas, Henderson and Milner is far too negative. There's no need for it, you're taking away from your attack to boost your defence, we all know BR is an attack minded manager so it's not surprise that the first sacrifice for him is a DM player.
On Sunday we had all sorts of crying going on before the game. Why isn't Sakho playing? . Rodgers is treating him unfairly . If we lose then Rodgers has to take the blame for playing Rodgers over him . He wasn't available for selection, he made himself unable as he wanted to be with his wife during labour. Something Rafa had a falling out with Alonso over, having said he didn't allow it and thus lead to Alonso's departure and yet BR treats players badly because of ego?
Some of you guys are hilarious. We are turning into the Arsenal board.

He isn't though.
Allen has scored 6 goals for us and got 6 assists in 100 odd games. Not a good record at all but it shows he can do a bit in the final 3rd even if is not to a particularly high standard.
Lucas couldn't score in a brothel, which is fine as he is a defensive midfielder, but is redundant if we don't play with one.

Whether on not we need a DM is a moot point. If you look at Brendan's overall record as manger it's the defensive side of the game that lets him down. We just ship too many goals over a season. Having said that I have my doubts as to Lucas being the player he was before his injury. Is he actually good enough to warrant a place in the team? Personally I don't think he is when we have players like Can and Milner to choose.
