Throw away £15m, how? He would be worth more than that to us, playing for 1 season...
================
But he's not playing is he.
To be fair, he is under contract so United have every right to hold onto him for the remainder of that contract as long as they don't break it in any circumstance so I can understand why they would want to hold onto him.
The next question is do you sell the player now or let him go later?
£20m for a player of his calibre with 1 year left on his contract would be about right for me. I think people are being unfair on Romero, he's a World Cup finalist and may not be the most fashionable of keepers he does a good job. It's difficult to see De Gea having as good a season as he did last year too unless he needs excellent performances to keep RM interested. There's still time to bring someone else in this window too.
£20m now, £10m in Jan or keep him for the seasons would be where I would hold them for.

No, £25M or £15M doesn't matter. It's all about the percentages.
That % symbol is all important right now. United can fart £25M. It's a tiny fraction of what we'll make in a year. It's an amount of money which is as important to united as £20 or so is in a month to you or me as an example. Really, I don't give a s41t if I leave it in a cash machine or something. I'm successful enough to be able to not care, and that's the mentality Manchester United should have in this sports business decision.
It's all about position and power plays. These are invaluable. £25M is not.

The window shuts in a couple of weeks. If he is still here when the window shuts then expect him to be back in the team pretty quickly. Unless Romero is doing exceptionally well - I don't really rate him though.
The thing that could work in Utd's favour is that the Euro's are coming up.

If United wanted a player in the last year of his contract we'd try to get him a bit cheaper if we could do. Pedro wants to leave barca, albeit for different reasons to DeGea, and we're still haggling the fee even though a clause is there. Its what clubs do. You win some, you lose some....

He'll be motivated for the Euros so I think he'll be fine. My problem is that we haven't got anyone in the team good enough to replace him this season. Valdes would do, but LVG isn't going to play him, so we'd need to get someone else in.
Yeah I do think the Euro's could work in Utd's favour. It's about the only position of strength that they have towards getting what they want though imo.
^^^ It's fans of other teams now who are saying not selling De Gea is a bad decision. Powerful stuff in itself.
It really doesn't matter a jot if we don't play De Gea again all year.
Provided we give him the option of signing a new contract, but assure him come seasons end if he wishes to leave on a free, he'll go with the clubs best wishes and a pat on the back from us, United come out of this strong.
We have an asking price, and if Madrid don't pay it, they can forget about buying him now.
Over the season, we can look for reinforcements in goal if we choose. Romero, De Gea ect are fine until January.

LVG said he spoke to De Gea who said he wasn't 100% focused so it is best for the team that he doesn't play.
How is that "unhappy" and "can't be arrsed"?
>A message is being sent to the clowns from Madrid. You cannot bully everyone.
Move forward 10 months and we're letting a young, world class keeper go for ZERO. Madrid will be laughing their heads off...
I'm still not convinced that his performances will be that of last season. Spain don't have the keepers that they used to and unless Casillas rediscovers himself at Porto, De Gea is pratically nailed on even if he's average this season.
Maybe it's because I'm not a United fan, but a goalkeeper is the last position I would want a player who isn't fully committed playing. To be honest as a Liverpool fan I'd be happy if they kept him.
