Tell me what's logic behind not going for Benteke or if wanted serious WC striker, why AW and board fekeed up by making 40m + 1 pence bid? Did board and AW think they will easily get Benzema or Cavani?

Lord Harris said they were looking to bring in a big name before selling Benzema.

The other thing is that he may have been benched anyway, due to Isco (or even Jese) and a change in formation.

Once Real couldn't sign a big name and Rafa (or Perez) decided Benzema was still a starter, the move was finished.

Lord Harris is blatantly talking crap then.

Well Madrid weren't seriously linked with a big name forward all summer, so I'm not sure what he was referring to

But Real are always looking for big names I guess.

I think there was a period when Madrid were considering selling (for whatever reason) though, otherwise KB wouldn't have gone off the radar for so long.

I think the only way they'd sell him is if they signed Aguero.

Which wasn't going to happen.

I'm surprised Madrid haven't brought in another striker anyway. They need a back up to Benzema.

Think RM would have surely taken £60m + for Benzema.

Whether he's "worth" that is another question, obviously

Obviously it didn't have to be Aguero. There's any number of things they could have done.

A change in formation alone could have been enough.

I think they toyed with the idea of Isco benching Benzema and using Ronaldo as the CF.

At which point, it would be silly not to consider a big offer for Big Benz.

Only if they could sign a superior striker, which is even hard for Madrid to do.

The striker market is limited at the moment. The fact Real haven't signed a big name striker since Benzema in 09 is indicative of this.

It's not feasible to expect a club to just go and spunk huge money on a player Madrid want to keep.

Di Maria and Ozil were let go as they wanted to bring in Bale and James.

Had a striker been brought in and Arsenal's relcutance to pay the asking price was what was holding up the transfer then ok, but that hasn't been the case.

Granted, that doesn't mean a better, or different type, of striker than Giroud couldn't have been brought in. We've got the same issue with Rooney.

The Ronaldo striker thing has been mentioned before but in reality I don't think it's something that will be tried just yet.

He's better playing on the wing and wants to play there. He's not that good with his back to goal so he'd be wasted as a cf.

And if they did that it still wouldn't address their issue of needing another striker.

Benzema alone isn't enough for a club like Madrid.

The only striker who was truely unavailable would have been Lewandowski (although he would have been the most suited for our team). Every other player would have had a price.

Jackson Martinez - Sold for about £28 Million
Cavani - Could have been had for around 45-50Mil
Benzema - £45 Mil although this would only have happened if Real signed another striker.
Higuian - Why not bid £40 Mil to test the water?

We should have just gone for Jackson Martinez.

Wenger is a complete and utter fool as usual.

Jackson Martinez was available but sorry not what we need. And it looks like second fiddle at Atletico.

Cavani and Benzema both not available for any money just like Lewandowski

Higuain, that ship has sailed long ago and he is not worth 50M EUR or any penny more. No, thank you.

I would take Austin as a rotation option, it's better than only having one sodding striker.

Because if you don't have an exotic sounding name or play for a big team, you're apparently worthless.

Edin Dzeko was available

Our squad would be stronger with a striker who scored 18 Premier League goals last year, than without. This is simple logic.
