Liverpool don't sign the finished article anymore. They sign young/potential. Summer 2014 was an exception because of the Suarez/CL money. Just like Summer 2013 was as exception for Spurs when they splurged £100M+ after selling Bale.

Get a grip. You're talking as if you bought Sanchez in the 90's If Sanchez was still playing in Europe at the level he was before Arsenal bought him, you could get him for the same price. He's been a big success at Arsenal, so obviously his price will have risen.

It's irrelevant that we had the Sterling money with respect to your argument. We had CL when we tried to sign Sanchez, we don't have it this season. Sterling was on around 35k a week, Benteke's and Firmino's wages will do a hell of a lot more than that. So for you to suggest we couldn't afford Sanchez without CL is complete and utter nonsense. Just admit it and move on

It doesn't matter who or what you were replying to. You made the point, its what you said. All your posts had a title challenge theme so just accept to be corrected in that no one at Liverpool expects a title challenge. As has been pointed out already our expectations are top 4 challenge and maybe a cup which makes your point completely moot.

I didn't said you couldn't afford Alexis without CL. I simply highlighted the fact that on top of the £60M+ you received for Suarez, you also received £30M+ CL money. That is £90M to play with on top of what you already budgeted for that Summer.

There is no reason I should admit to being wrong. Only an idiot would claim that Liverpool can compete financially with Arsenal or any other European financial powerhouse for the top players on the market. But then you are a Liverpool fan...

Yes we can. The money is there, we have more cash than every team in the UK combined so we can easily compete with them. PSG wanted Ozil and Cech and we got them. Real wanted Cazorla, we got him. We can easily compete financially, we just have a manager who choses not to.

But again none of that is relevant because this is about Liverpool not being able to compete with the big boys, not Arsenal.

You got Sanchez and Ozil because Barca and Real didn't want them. Barca got Fabregas, and then discarded him again, because they only had to click their fingers.

That's the situation with all the English clubs. (With the possible exception of City, but I reckon those two could even prise players away from there, if they wanted them badly enough.)

We are well aware that we lost Torres, Mascherano, Alonso, Arbeloa, Suarez, Sterling. We've recruited some good playes, and we are under no illusions at all, about what's likely to happen if they attract the attention of those clubs, we just hope to get good money for them.

If the Spanish clubs (or the Sugar Daddy clubs) come calling, that's it. (Though I'm not sure that Chelsea want to be in that market any more)

But Arsenal sure as hell aren't in that market.

Verily it is pure codswallop. Absolute balderdash. Sanchez declined the gargantuan proposal put forward by the Liverpool hierachy because he wanted to intergrate himself within a team that doesn't bother trying to achieve that ultimate prizes in football
