lost 5 of his fights
======
3 of which were in his late 30's.
3 of which were avenged in rematches.
If you break it down for others like you have for Ali then every sportsman is going to look over rated.
Muhammad Ali overrated?
almost as stupid as saying the Beatles were like One Direction.
Be quiet Doink
Tim Henman... When you compare him to Andy Murray it's startling to see how high of a regard the public held Tim in.

it was more the fact that he was taken the distance so often by fighters who were nothing special.
like i say, dont get me wrong, good fighter, brilliant entertainer, but for me overated.
take Klitchko for example, statistically, a better record than Ali, lost less fights, better KO %, but is classed as a boring fighter.
Just because Ali was taken the distance doesn't make him less of a boxer. Floyd is regarded as the best in the world for the past what, 15-20 years? How many knockouts has he had.
If anything, I think Ali's exploits out of the ring underrate his ability as a boxer.

is it?
take away the guys bravado outside the ring, take away the Ali shuffle inside the ring and all his gum flapping, and youre left with a very good fighter, but not the greatest for me.
if you dont believe me, look at some of the names he has been taken the distance by.
That's because wlad klit is boring dunc... His style is boring.
Recent boxer has to be George Groves, totally overrated journeyman.
Groves made the mistake of leaving a good trainer for a poor one.

totally agree, but his record is better, so surely, this makes him more successful.
Maybe Barney but even under what his name Haye's fella he was still average, barley beat DeGeale in his biggest career win, lost twice to Groves (don't care if it was stopped too soon in the first the whole momentum of the fight swung in that round, 30 seconds more and Groves was KOd) Got KOd real bad in the second fight, lost another undeserved shot at a world title recently.
Just never saw the quality to deserve the fights he got but that can be said of many fighters especially in the UK.
Klit is bigger than Ali, it's natural for him to have more KOs. But if you're focusing on Ali's opponents who have taken him the distance, then you have to look at Wlad's opponents and say most of them are weak.
I think any of the heavyweights of Ali'a era would have a field day with the rubbish that's been around for the past 10 years
Does anyone rate Groves that highly though?

Or a beneficary of his time?
In terms of the list of names you threw out, I would imagine you know nothing of them. For example Floyd Paterson also failed to stop Chuvalo. You also do not consider stages of career, a fair few were at the start of his career, and even more after his exile and in his 30s.
I get if you look at stats then Ali didn't have the best record, but for me no boxer has come close to him. I can only assume you haven't watched any of his fights if you think he was all mouth and shuffles?

i dont think size has that much to do with it, tyson was a dwarf compared to some heavyweights, but that didnt stop him knocking everyone out.
Tyson (mike) was probably the last great heavyweight boxer
Dunc I guess if you take a team like Chelsea. Very efficient. Not that pleasing on the eye, but gets the job done at the business end of the season and compare it to say arsenal a team who in full flow and on form are pretty damn good to watch. Who would you rather watch if given the choice? Floyd mayweather in his latter years especially is like an ultra defensive Chelsea team
Yes but Tyson was an animal, bigger than most in terms of body muscle etc, I didn't just mean height
